New Openings Roundup 23rd June

The latest news on venues opening across the UK.

HOP Vietnamese is to open two new sites over the summer—on Bond Street in London in August and at the Trafford Centre in Manchester in July. The Manchester location will be its first restaurant outside London. HOP’s first two openings were in London Wall and St Paul’s.  

 

Pan-Asian restaurant brand Banana Tree is about to open a new site in Reigate in Surrey, in a unit previously occupied by Café Rouge. It will be Banana Tree’s 13th location, following recent new openings in Hayward’s Heath, Covent Garden and the O2 Arena.  

 

The Fat Hippo burger brand has confirmed an opening on George Street in Edinburgh in early July. It follows Fat Hippo’s move into the city as a pop-up within the Lane7 bowling centre. 

 

Junkyard Golf Club has announced details of its seventh venue, at Camden Market in London. It is the largest Junkyard Golf Club to date, with 19,500 square feet of space, and will open in August. The brand’s other venues are in Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Oxford and Shoreditch. 

 

China-based restaurant group MealTime Malatang has opened its first European site on Goodge Street in London’s Fitzrovia. It is a 500 square feet restaurant with 26 covers. The opening was secured by Shaftesbury Capital. MealTime Malatanghas more than 50 restaurants around China.  

 

Indian brand Masala Zone opened in the Criterion building on London’s Piccadilly this week. Masala Zone also has restaurants in Covent Garden, Earls Court and Soho.  

 

Japanese brand Marugame Udon has applied for permission to open a new restaurant at the Brewery development in Romford. It would be a 13th location for the group. 

 

Beefbar, an international upmarket steakhouse brand with a site in London’s Chelsea as well as restaurants around Europe, the Middle East and north America, is to open a branch of its Le Petit Beefbar concept in the George Hotel on George Street in Edinburgh on 10 July, local media report.  

 

The RIO Brazilian Steakhouse brand opened on Newgate Street in Chester this week. 

 

The Amber Taverns group has just opened the Leopard pub in Chester, with another new site following at the end of June—the Northern Way in Irvine in Scotland. 

 

Five Guys has submitted a licensing application for an opening off the A11 near Mildenhall in Suffolk, local media report.  

 

Jack & Alice, a restaurant and wine bar in Gerrard’s Cross, is opening a second site shortly at the Borough in Farnham, in a unit that was previously occupied by the Botanist. 

 

Mobile taco bar Mexican Seoul is opening its first permanent restaurant at Victoria Park on London’s Bow Wharf in early July. 

 

Liverpool’s taco restaurant Madre opened a new venue at Kampus in Manchester late last week.
