CGA by NielsenIQ’s latest France On Premise Consumer Pulse Report April 2024 takes a closer look at seasonal consumption trends, with critical insights enabling drinks brands, suppliers, and venue operators to make informed decisions for success during the upcoming summer months.
Key findings reveal seasonal shifts in consumers’ beverage consumption when out in bars, restaurants, and other venues as the weather warms. Beer leads in terms of greater seasonal popularity, with more than a fifth (22%) of consumers planning to increase their intake, followed by a fifth (20%) planning to drink more cocktails, and a further fifth (19%) intending to drink more rosé wine.
But what are they planning to drink less of? French consumers expect to reduce their consumption of coffee (15%), red wine (13%), and tea (12%) – adjustments suppliers and operators should factor into their beverage offerings to supply to these changing preferences.
The Report also explores where consumers prefer to sit when visiting bars, cafes, or restaurants. Almost two thirds (60%) prefer outdoor or terrasse seating during the spring and summer months, with a similar amount (58%) also indicating a preference for indoor seating. This dual preference suggests venues can maximise both indoor and outdoor spaces for optimal occupancy and customer satisfaction.
Julien Veyron, Client Solutions Director – France said: “It’s essential for anyone in the On Premise market to understand the consumer trends in this Report, especially during the key summer months when relaxed attitudes in the sunshine drive an increased appetite for drinks and good times. Drinks suppliers and operators can better cater to consumer needs and remain competitive by aligning their strategies with these evolving preferences, ensuring they are well-prepared for the seasonal shifts in consumption.”
This monthly On Premise Consumer Pulse report is a fast-turnaround ‘temperature check’ of the channel and the consumers who visit bars and restaurants in France.
