New Openings Roundup 5th April

The latest news on venues opening across the UK.

Dishoom has confirmed an opening for its Permit Room all-day bar and café concept on Trinity Street in Cambridge. The Permit Room first launched in Brighton. Dishoom has run a food delivery service in Cambridge since 2021. 

 

Seafood group Rockfish has submitted plans to open a new restaurant in Budleigh Salterton in east Devon. It plans to take over and expand the Longboat Café in the town. Rockfish currently has eight restaurants, with more openings lined up for Salcombe, Sidmouth and Topsham. 

 

London fish and chips shop chain Poppies opened on Portobello Road this week, in an old bank building. It is a fourth location for the brand, after, Camden, Soho and Spitalfields. 

 

JD Wetherspoon has confirmed plans for its major new pub opening at Waterloo station in London. It will be called the Lion and Unicorn and is due to launch in the summer. 

 

Loungers has submitted plans to open a new Lounge on the high street in Newmarket in Suffolk, local media report. 

 

The Heartwood Collection is opening in East Barnet in Greater London, after acquiring the Prince of Wales pub. Heartwood has also just acquired the Old Crown pub in Great Bookham in Surrey, and further openings are lined up in Lewes and Newbury. 

 

Boxpark has set 19 April for the opening of its new site in Liverpool, and announced a line-up of traders including Crazy Pedro’s, Madre, Pukht, Rose Street Falafel, Shake, Simply Salt n Pepper, Yoki Social Table and Yum Cha. Liverpool will be Boxpark’s fourth site and first outside London. Another opening is following soon in Birmingham. 

 

Blackstock Market, the new food, drink, events and entertainment complex in Liverpool, launches this weekend. It has a food market with a line-up of mobile operators, plus several bars. 

 

Indian street food style restaurant group Mowgli will open on Malt Street in Knutsford in Cheshire in the late summer or early autumn, local media report. 

 

Chopstix has just opened a new location at the Braehead shopping centre in Glasgow. 

 

London-based Persian concept Naroon has opened two new sites: a restaurant on Marylebone High Street and a Counter by Naroon café operation next to its original restaurant on Great Titchfield Street.  

 

The Lakedown Brewing Co is to open the first site of its new pub group in June. The undisclosed location has been acquired with the help of Fleurets. 

 

The north England-based Mountain Pub Company is opening three new pubs after acquiring a package from JD Wetherspoon. Two are located in west Yorkshire and the other is in the Wirral. 

 

Container-based food collective group Stack has had plans for an opening in Sheffield approved. It will be a 26,000 square feet site with space for music and events as well as food and drink operators. Stack has also just announced the line-up of traders for its new site in Lincoln.  

 

Asian group Kokoro has applied for permission to open on Byres Road in Glasgow—a second site in the city after Sauchiehall Street. 

 

Bubble tea brand Gong Cha has opened on New Street in Birmingham—its 15th site in the UK.
