New Openings Roundup 2nd June

The latest news on venues opening across the UK.

Bavarian-style bar group Albert’s Schlosswill open a first site in London in Spring 2024, on Shaftesbury Avenue. It has taken over the unit previously occupied by the Rainforest café and will occupy 18,000 square feet of space over three levels, with more than 500 covers. It will be a fourth location for Albert’s Schloss, after Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester. The London signing was brokered by P-THREE. 

 

Wagamama is launching a new 4,000 square feet restaurant in the Upper Mall of the Merry Hill retail and leisure complex near Birmingham next month. Other brands to have signed to Merry Hill recently include German Doner Kebab and Hollywood Bowl. 

 

Vietnamese street food group Pho is opening at centre:mk in Milton Keynes. The 4,100 square feet restaurant will have about 100 covers. Black Sheep Coffee has also signed for an opening at the centre recently.  

 

Turtle Bay will open in Camden in August—its 50th site in the UK. Several more openings are due to follow before the end of the year, including in Blackpool and Lincoln.  

 

Fried chicken brand Sides, developed by YouTubers The Sidemen with the Virtual Hero Group, has confirmed an opening on the high street in Bristol. It joins sites in Harrow, Wembley and Wandsworth, with plans for up to ten more openings in 2023. It has a longer term target of around 200 Sides sites globally in the next ten years, alongside delivery operations.  

 

Loungers has just opened the Armado Lounge at the Barbican by the waterside in Plymouth. The group also opened the Tesoro Lounge in Thornbury in Gloucestershire this week. 

 

Indian brand Masala Zone says it will open on Piccadilly on 21 June, in the unit previously run by Criterion. Masala Zone’s three other London restaurants are in Covent Garden, Soho and Earls Court. 

 

Bar and restaurant group The Alchemist has said it will open two new sites in as yet undisclosed travel locations in London. They are scheduled to launch late this year or early in 2024. 

 

The Lionhearth Group is opening a pub called the Black Horse in Salford, currently known as the Salford Inn. The group currently runs pubs in Churchill and Ascott-under-Wychwood. 

 

US restaurant brand Philly Steaks N Shakes has just opened at the St Enoch centre in Glasgow. The concept also operates at the East Kilbride shopping centre in the city.  

 

Japanese restaurant group Kibou has opened its fifth location, on Jesus Lane in Cambridge, in a unit previously occupied by PizzaExpress. Kibou’s four other restaurants are in Battersea, Cheltenham, Clifton and Solihull. 

 

Burger brand 7Bone Burger has just opened on Bedford Place in Southampton. It follows a fire that closed the 7Bone restaurant on Portswood Road in the town. The brand now has ten sites across the south of England. 

 

Oxford’s Dosa Park restaurant has opened a second site in the Botley area of the city.  

 

Taco Bell has submitted plans to open in the Oldbury Green retail park in the west Midlands. 

 

South American fried chicken concept El Pollote, which has operated at markets in central London, is opening a permanent site on Carnaby Street. The 40-cover unit will open in mid-June. 

 

Street food concept Mexican Seoul is opening a permanent taco bar in Bow Wharf in East London.
