New Openings Roundup 2nd February

The latest news on venues opening across the UK.

US brand Wingstop has announced plans for nine more openings on high streets and in retail parks in the UK this year. They are in Clapham, Croydon Valley Retail Park, Hounslow, Lakeside, Leeds, Merry Hill Dudley, Watford, Westfield Stratford City and Wood Green. Wingstop also has plans to launch six more new sites in undisclosed locations this year.  

 

Slim Chickens has reached the milestone of 50 UK sites with an opening at the Gunwharf Quays Outlet Mall in Portsmouth. The rapid rollout of the US brand has been led by the Boparan Restaurant Group.  

 

Ireland’s Mexican burrito bar group Boojum, now owned by the Azzurri group, is to make its debut in the UK with an opening at the Merrion Centre in Leeds in April. Boojum currently as 15 sites, mostly in Dublin and Belfast. There are plans for up to 25 more UK openings, in cities including Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester and Nottingham. 

 

Trejo’s Tacos, a Mexican concept run by American actor Danny Trejo, is opening on Portobello Road in Notting Hill shortly. Trejo’s Tacos already operates five locations in and around Los Angeles in the US. 

 

US-based Chipotle Mexican Grill’s latest new UK site opens on the high street in Hillingdon next week. The brand currently has ten sites in London. 

 

Indian restaurant and craft beer concept Tap & Tandoor has just opened at Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth. It is a fourth location for the brand, after Peterborough, Solihull and Southampton. 

 

The DRG hospitality group in Scotland is to launch two new restaurants in England: a second branch of its Café Andaluz brand in Newcastle, and a first site in London. The locations are yet to be confirmed. The DRG group currently has around 20 sites, mostly in Glasgow and Edinburgh. 

 

Brakspear has acquired two pubs in Hampshire from New Dawn Pubs: The Rose & Crown near Alton and The Royal Exchange near Bordon.  

 

The Berber & Co hospitality group’s all-day Mediterranean restaurant concept Carmel has signed for an opening at Market Place in London’s Fitzrovia in the spring. It is a second site for the restaurant, after Queens Park. The deal was brokered by Savills. 

 

Competitive socialising group Sixes has announced a new opening on Bermondsey Street at London Bridge on 14 March. It will become Sixes’ fifth London location and 12th site in all. 

 

Lita, a new restaurant concept from the team behind the Burger & Lobster group, is opening on Paddington Street in London’s Marylebone in March.  

 

Caffè Nero is opening its first drive-through site this Spring, near the main terminal building at Stansted Airport. It will be a 24-hour operation and may become a template for more drive-through locations in the future.  

 

Tortilla has confirmed plans for four more new sites in UK travel hubs in partnership with the SSP group. The alliance has already brought five joint openings.
