New Openings Roundup 26th January

The latest news on venues opening across the UK.

American QSR brand Popeyes opened in Ilford this week, with another London launch to follow next week in Hammersmith. Popeyes has set out plans for 30 more openings this year, including a first travel-based unit at London’s Waterloo station. Other confirmed locations include Aberdeen, Birmingham, Bishop Auckland, Exeter, Glasgow, Nottingham and Swansea. It currently has 38 sites in the UK.  

 

The Loungers group opens its latest new Lounge at the Riverside in Rochdale next week. It is called the Pionero Lounge. It will be followed the next week by the Pontio Lounge in Chepstow. Loungers is also preparing an opening in an old retail unit at St Peter’s Wharf in Ipswich in October, local media report.  

 

The Dodo Pub Company is opening a second pub in Cheltenham after acquiring the Sudeley Arms. It will relaunch as Airs & Graces in March. The Dodo group currently has seven pubs. 

 

Wendy’s has received planning approval for a new restaurant in Cambridge, local media report. It will be on St Andrews Street in the city. 

 

Rosa’s Thai opens its latest new restaurant on Friary Street in Guildford next week. It is a 70-cover unit. 

 

Wagamama has set 19 February as the opening date for its new restaurant at the St Enoch Centre in Glasgow—its fourth location in the city. 

 

The Ottolenghi restaurant and deli group has announced a new opening at Bicester Village, in a site last occupied by Le Pain Quotidien. It will be a first opening outside London, where it has eight locations. 

 

The Real Greek has set 11 February for the launch of its new restaurant at the Liverpool ONE development. It will be a 162-cover site in a 3,900 square feet unit that was previously occupied by Byron. 

 

La Muna, a Japanese-Peruvian restaurant run by the Switzerland-based Michel Reybier hospitality group, is launching its first site in the UK, at the L’oscar London hotel in Bloomsbury. It is scheduled to open in the Spring.  

 

London’s Persian restaurant Naroon has opened a second location on New Cavendish Street in Marylebone. It has also moved its original restaurant on Great Titchfield Street to a larger unit nearby, incorporating a new café set-up called Counter by Naroon. 

 

Mexican brand Plan Burrito is opening under franchise in Gillingham in Kent, local media report. Plan Burrito currently has ten sites. 

 

US-style burger concept 12th Street Burgers has launched at the Chatham Maritime Marina in Kent. It is a seventh location, after Collier Row, Coventry, Ealing, Milton Keynes, Southend and Wood Green.
