Australia-based Mexican-inspired group Zambrero opened at Hammerson’s Bullring in Birmingham this week. Zambrero has six locations in central and greater London plus restaurants in Manchester, Reading and Chelmsford.
Slim Chickens has opened on Greenwich Street in the Greenwich area of London, in a unit that was previously occupied by Gourmet Burger Kitchen. It becomes the 52nd branch of Slim Chickens, which launched into the UK with the Boparan Restaurant Group.
Café and lifestyle brand EL&N is launching The EL&N Deli & Bakery in Covent Garden’s Market Building in July. The 650 square feet unit will have room for 14 people inside, and 54 on Covent Garden’s Piazza. Shaftesbury Capital has also announced the opening of a third site for match bar concept Jenki on nearby Long Acre.
Lendlease has announced the signing of the Bread Street Kitchen & Bar concept from Gordon Ramsay Restaurants at Stratford Cross’ Pavilion building. The 10,000 square feet space will cover all three floors of the building. It becomes the sixth London location for the brand, which also has restaurants in Edinburgh and Liverpool.
Gail’s will open its first dedicated café operation within Waitrose on 6 June. It will be at its Canary Wharf branch, and follows a partnership that has seen Waitrose sell Gail’s-branded products in more than 60 shops.
Chinese burger concept Kung Fu Burger is opening on Shaftesbury Avenue, Shaftesbury Capital has announced. It has been developed by Alex Xu, who also set up Kung Fu Noodle and two other concepts in London’s Chinatown.
Tortilla will shortly open in the departures area of Glasgow Airport, local media report. Other forthcoming openings for Tortilla include a third site in Manchester, at the Arndale Centre, on 1 June.
Pub operator Weavers opened a third bar in Stourbridge this week. Its other two sites are in Kidderminster and Malvern.
The Strongarm Hospitality Group, which runs several late-night venues in London. has opened its first restaurant—a Japanese Nikkei-style concept called Pirana on St James’s Street.
The Big Mamma restaurant group is planning a major new opening in Canary Wharf, according to reports. It has submitted plans to take on a unit on Mackenzie Walk previously occupied by All Bar One. The Big Mamma group currently has five locations in London.
Catering group Benugo this week launched a new rooftop bar and restaurant at the John Lewis store on London’s Oxford Street. It is called 1864 Rooftop Bar & Kitchen and has space for about 260 people.
The Sloane Stanley Estate has announced the opening of a new modern European restaurant called Fantomas on King’s Road in Chelsea in July. The 2,000 square feet sits has been developed by restaurateurs George Bukhov-Weinstein and Ilya Demichev.
Oodles Chinese opened on Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow this week.
Bounce, the competitive socialising concept from the State of Play Hospitality group, plans to open on Central Plaza in Dublin. It currently runs three sites in London, in Battersea, Farringdon and Old Street.

Pret is setting up its first location in Suffolk, after receiving permission to open at the Barton Mills service station in partnership with the Motor Fuel Group.
