The latest news on venues opening across the UK.

Mitchells & Butlers launched a new southern US-style concept called Orleans Smokehouse with a restaurant in Shirley near Solihull this week. It is a conversion of a Harvester site there. 

 

Thai brand Giggling Squid has applied for permission to open in a retail unit on Lendal in York, local media report. Giggling Squid currently has around 50 restaurants around the UK. 

 

Franco Manca has set 11 March for the opening of its latest new restaurant at the Barcode in Plymouth. It will have 72 covers inside and 32 outside, and becomes Franco Manca’s 70th location in the UK. 

 

The family behind London Italian restaurant group Spaghetti House is to open a new contemporary trattoria concept called A Braccetto in Earls Court shortly. Spaghetti House was established in 1955 and currently has nine restaurants around London. 

 

Bar and competitive socialising venue Carousel is opening in Leeds in late March, local media report. A sister nightclub venture called Home will operate in the basement of the building on Albion Street, which was previously occupied by Tiger. Carousel was founded in Lincoln and also has openings in the pipeline in Bristol and Worcester. 

 

The Adventure Leisure group will launch a new branch of its Mulligans bar, restaurant and gaming brand at Jarman Park in Hemel Hempstead in the summer. It will be the group’s 13th Mulligans venue. 

 

Hollywood Bowl has signed for an opening at the Chimes shopping centre in Uxbridge. The 38,000 square feet unit will have 22 bowling lanes, mini-golf and restaurant.  

 

The Six by Nico restaurant group has applied for permission to open at the Westgate shopping centre in Oxford, local media report. 

 

Birmingham’s Indian Brewery plans to open a new taproom on St Paul’s Square in the city’s Jewellery Quarter. It will be a second site in Birmingham, after the original at Snow Hill.  

 

Costa Coffee and Sainsbury’s have extended a partnership that will see Costa open cafes at 11 superstores in 2024. The first shared site is in Portsmouth. 

 

Shark Tail Sushi, an operator with restaurants in Boscombe and Poole, is opening a third branch in Bournemouth shortly. It has taken a unit in the town’s BH2 development. 

 

The Black & White group, the franchise partner for Marco Pierre White’s restaurant concepts, has announced the opening a new Marco’s New York Italian restaurant at a new Holiday Inn hotel in Blackpool shortly.  

 

The team behind the Edinburgh Castle pub in Ancoats are opening a new pub and restaurant concept on Newton Street in Manchester’s Northern Quarter next week. It is called the Lamb of Tartary and replaces the Cottonopolis venue there. 

 

Birmingham pub 1,000 Trades plans to launch a second site at Lightwoods House in the Bearwood area, local media report.
