New openings round-up

Comptoir Libanais, Darwin & Wallace, El Gato Negro, PizzaExpress and Wok to Walk are a few of this week's new openings.

Lebanese brand Comptoir Libanais is to open at the food plaza of the Ashford Designer Outlet in Kent in the autumn. It will be operated by HMSHost, which will also run the branch of Starbucks at the centre. Pret and YO! Sushi are already open there, with Five Guys to follow soon.

Neighbourhood bar and restaurant group Darwin & Wallace will open a 170-cover venue by Mackenzie Walk in Canary Wharf in November—its eighth location in all.

PizzaExpress is being lined up for an opening at the Tudno Point development in Llandudno, local media report.

Hoh Sek Noodles, a Chinese concept from the founders of Rosa’s Thai Café, has just launched at St Katharine Docks in London. It has an on the go operation during the day and an eat-in restaurant offer during the evenings, plus delivery.

Mission Mars, the group behind Manchester’s Albert’s Schloss venue, is to open a sister German-style bar and restaurant called Albert’s Schenke in Liverpool at the end of July. It will have around 20 beers on tap and will launch with a beer festival event. It has taken on a unit previously occupied by Hub Alehouse and Kitchen on Liverpool’s Hanover Street. Mission Mars is also lining up an opening for its pizza brand Rudy’s, in Bennetts Hill in Birmingham in mid-July.

Asian fast food brand Wok to Walk has opened a new 950 square feet unit to Barton Arcade on Deansgate in Manchester. It has 44 covers and a takeaway operation. Wok to Walk now has 14 sites, in Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds, Liverpool, London and Reading as well as Manchester.

Manchester’s tapas restaurant and bar El Gato Negro has confirmed plans to open in Leeds towards the end of the year. It will take over a site on Park Row previously operated by Jamie’s Italian. El Gato Negro also has a Liverpool opening lined up in August.

American saloon bar style brand Coyote Ugly will open its fifth UK site under franchise on Broad Street in Birmingham in mid-August, according to local media. The other four branches of Coyote Ugly are in Cardiff, Liverpool, Manchester and Swansea.

Liverpool restaurant and bar brand Maray will open at the Royal Albert Dock in the city on Monday (8 July). Maray’s other two sites are on Bold Street and Allerton Road in Liverpool.

Seafood restaurant group Rockfish will open its seventh site in Weymouth in Dorset in the next few weeks. Another opening in the county is planned for Poole later in the year.

Burger brand Frankster’s opened at the White Rose shopping centre in Leeds on Thursday (4 July). It joins Frankster’s restaurants in Batley, Blackburn, Bradford and Morley, with openings also planned in locations including Leicester, Luton, Dewsbury and London.

Great Northern Inns is opening in Newark, after it acquired the Ram pub. It becomes the company’s 11th site.

Manchester’s Italian restaurant operator Salvi’s is to open a fifth location in the city on High Street in the Northern Quarter at the end of August. Salvi’s already operates two sites at Manchester’s Corn Exchange and two on John Dalton Street.

Marco Pierre White’s Black and White Hospitality group has opened a restaurant under its Steakhouse Bar and Grill format at the Hilton hotel in Sheffield Park.
