New openings round-up

BAO, Black Sheep Brewery, Market Halls, Rudy's Pizza and Rosa's Thai Café are a few of the latest new openings.

Street food collective operator Market Halls has announced plans for a fourth site—at Crossrail Place in Canary Wharf. The 20,000 square feet, two-floor operation will be part of Blackstone’s leisure and office development Cargo and should open in late 2020. It will join three other Market Halls venues, in Fulham, Victoria and Oxford Circus.

The New World Trading Company’s The Botanist brand is to open a bar and restaurant in Warrington in 2020. It has signed for a 10,000 square feet site with space for 300 covers at the new Time Square development. Cineworld is an anchor tenant at the scheme, which will also have a market, council offices, car park and other restaurant space. New World Trading Company chief executive Chris Hill said: “The vision for the development aligns with our brand, and it will be an ideal location for increasing our footprint in the north-west region.”

The San Carlo group is to open a champagne bar at Selfridges in Manchester’s Trafford Centre. It is the sixth launch in a partnership that also saw Selfridges open a restaurant in its London store last year. San Carlo now operates a total of 21 venues.

Black Sheep Brewery is to open a bar and restaurant in Chapel Allerton in Leeds after acquiring Kith & Kin from Arc Inspirations. It follows Black Sheep’s acquisition of four York Brewery pubs late last year.

Taiwanese restaurant group BAO opened its third site in Borough this week. It joins restaurants in Fitzrovia and Soho. BAO also runs a bar and teahouse in London.

Red Dog Saloon has set 23 May for the opening of its new hot fried chicken restaurant Louie’s. The Nashville-inspired concept will operate in the basement of Red Dog Saloon’s Hoxton Square restaurant.

BrewDog will open a new bar on Inverurie next Friday (17 May). In an update on opening plans, it added that it would open a new taproom for Hawkes Cider in London, while June will see launches in Manchester, Hamburg and Nice.

The Corbin & King group plans to open a second branch of its European café-restaurant Wolseley, on the ground floor of a former House of Fraser department store near London Bridge.

Rudy’s Pizza is to add to its Manchester and Liverpool restaurants with a fourth opening in Bennetts Hill in Birmingham. The 85-cover operation will succeed a restaurant there called Amantia.

Rosa’s Thai Café opened its latest new restaurant at the Trinity Leeds centre last weekend. The 140-cover site is situated on the Upper Dining Terrace at Trinity.

Indian-inspired burger street food operator Baba G’s is opening a permanent 50-cover restaurant in Camden Market’s North Yard in late May. It follows its success on the BBC’s Million Pound Menu series. Baba Gs has been a street food and pop-up operation for nearly ten years.

Flat Iron Square Portuguese restaurant Bar Douro is opening a second site on Finsbury Avenue in Broadgate later in the year. It will have 44 covers inside and 22 more out.

Hertfordshire brewer McMullen is to launch a new-build pub at the Campbell Wharf development in Milton Keynes. It is expected to open its doors in late 2020.

Islington-based café and bakery Pophams is opening a second site on Richmond Road by London Fields in the next few weeks.

Sandwich brand Sub Cult will open its first permanent site on Watling Street by One New Change in the City in June. The concept was founded as a street food venture in 2014 and has operated at various London markets and as a pop-up.

Fish and chip shop operator Sutton & Sons has launched a fried chicken restaurant called Peck! Peck! in Hackney. Sutton & Sons already operate another restaurant in Hackney, as well as sites in Islington and Stoke Newington

Fuller’s has reopened the Anglers pub in Teddington after a major refurbishment.
