New openings round-up

Aether, Crab Shack, Miller & Carter, Taco Bell and Din Tai Fung are few in this week's new openings.

The Alchemist group has opened its new cocktail bar and restaurant concept called Aether at the Liverpool ONE development. The 1,600 square feet bar has 21 modern and classic cocktails inspired by the elements, plus a performance area, live music space and outdoor seating area. It sits alongside the New World Trading Company’s Club House on Chavasse Park at Liverpool One. The Alchemist managing director Simon Potts said: “It’s been brilliant to see an exciting new concept become a reality over the last few months and we are delighted to be launching this amazing idea at Liverpool ONE.” Alison Clegg, director of asset management at Grosvenor Europe, said: “We’re thrilled to announce the opening of Aether which will further strengthen the evening offer at Liverpool ONE. The team at The Alchemist and Macaulay Sinclair have created a stunning new bar in a unique and attractive location within the city.”

Ramen brand Tonkotsu has signed for an opening at the Dicken’s Yard in Ealing. The 1,500 square feet unit will be close to brands including Pho, Bill’s, Nando’s and Franco Manca. Tonkotsu has also just opened at Stratford International. Shelley Sandzer acted on behalf of Tonkotsu in the deal.

London Cocktail Club has opened in Clifton Triangle in Bristol—its first venue outside London. The group already runs nine sites in the capital.

Harcourt Inns, the pub restaurant group founded by chef Henry Harris and James McCulloch, will open its fourth site in November: The Harlot in Chiswick. Harcourt also runs the Coach in Clerkenwell, the Hero of Maida in Maida Vale and Three Cranes in the City.

Jersey-based brand Crab Shack will soon open its first restaurants on mainland Britain, local media report. Parent group JP Restaurants has just opened a third Crab Shack site on the island, in St Helier.

Upmarket fried chicken and cocktail bar concept Chick ‘n’ Sours will open its third restaurant in Islington in late September. The brand also operates in Haggerston and Seven Dials.

Miller & Carter has submitted plans to convert the Ye Olde Manor pub in Crewe into a restaurant, local media report.

Taiwanese restaurant chain Din Tai Fung is to make its UK debut with a site on Henrietta Street in Covent Garden. It will cover 9,000 square feet over two floors, with a capacity of 250. A second site is due to follow at the redeveloped Centre Point on Tottenham Court Road next year. Din Tai Fung specialises in steamed dumplings and has 154 sites around the world, including in the US and Australia as well as Asia. The deal for its first site was secured by Shelley Sandzer.

A new Australian-style coffeeshop, café and wine bar called Milk Beach opened this week on Lonsdale Road in Queen’s Park. It is specialising in small plates and speciality coffee.

The Scotland-based Tony Macaroni group is to open a new restaurant in Cumbernauld, local media report. It follows a recent opening under the Mozza brand at Marischal Square in Aberdeen. The group also plans to launch a Tony Macaroni franchise for openings around the UK, starting in Bangor in Northern Ireland.

US-based Tex Mex brand Taco Bell is recruiting for an opening in Chester as it continues its expansion in the UK.

Italian street food concept-style Wolf has applied for permission to open on Market Street in Nottingham. It would be a fifth restaurant for the group, which also has two branches in Reading and one in each of Chiswick and Leeds.

Liverpool’s Red & Blue Restaurants group is opening a fourth site in the city in the next few weeks: Rocket & Ruby, a 3,000 square feet all-day neighbourhood-style restaurant on Castle Street. Red & Blue has also announced plans to open a second branch of its Bacaro small plates and Campari bar concept in Manchester next year.

Five Guys has set 24 September for the opening of its new Chelmsford restaurants. It follows a delay of more than a year.

Cyclone Leisure, which operates San Lorenzo restaurants in Gosforth and Washington in the Northeast, is to open a new pizza restaurant and sports bar concept in The Union Rooms on Westgate Road in Newcastle, having acquired the site from JD Wetherspoon last year.
