The latest edition of CGA’s Mexico On Premise Consumer Pulse report demonstrates that visitation across the channel is remaining steady, with 7 in 10 consumers visiting bars and/or restaurants for food-led occasions in the past month, and almost half visiting for drink-led occasions. 7 in 10 consumers are visiting the On Premise at least weekly and weekends remain the most popular time to visit the On Premise with almost 4 in 5 visiting on Saturdays and two thirds visiting on Fridays.
Almost half on consumers report that they are currently visiting the On Premise more than usual, and almost a third say their visitation is remaining consistent to their usual behaviour. For the 23% visiting bars and restaurants less frequently than usual, ‘spending money on other things’, ‘price increases in eating and drinking out’, and ‘cost-of-living increases’ are the main factors influencing their visitation frequency.
Over the Christmas period, 33% of consumers in Mexico are planning to visit the On Premise and a further 20% are still undecided. Restaurants are the most popular venue type for 77%, with bars at 36% and late night bars the third venue of choice at 28%. Beer is once again the drink of choice, with 56% of consumers planning to drink it, while Tequila (51%), and Whiskey (44%) also rank highly.
New Year’s Eve promises to be a significant occasion for the On Premise, with 44% of consumers planning to visit to celebrate. As the year comes to an end, many celebrating consumers are looking to treat themselves – 94% are very likely, or likely, to pay extra for a better-quality drink when out celebrating New Year’s Eve.
Mauricio Castellanos, CGA by NIQ Leader Mexico, said: “The festive season promises to be another uplifting period for the On Premise as consumers in Mexico plan to prioritise the channel for their celebrations in the run up to Christmas and for New Year’s Eve. With those heading out to celebrate the New Year looking to trade up for a higher quality drink, and 4 in 5 planning to visit the On Premise as frequently, or more often, in the next month, there are plenty of reasons for celebration as we move into 2024.”
