Artisan drinks, premium spirits, cocktail innovation and rocketing choice—those are among the big drinks trends forecast for 2017 in a new round of insights from CGA Strategy’s suite of market intelligence services.

The analysis includes the news that more than 2,000 new beer and cider brands have been launched onto the market in the last three years, and that the average British backbar now stocks a choice of 36 different brands. A lot of the soaring choice is coming from craft beer, which is tipped by more than half of senior execs as a big trend for 2017 in CGA’s new Business Leaders’ Survey. But the appeal of artisan drinks is spreading way beyond beer, to items like micro-distillery spirits and specialist coffee.

CGA stats also show that more than three quarters of British bars stock cocktails—up by a dozen percentage points on a year ago. Sparkling wine, now drunk by more than one in seven consumers out of home, is another growth hotspot.
