New openings round-up

Be At One, Nando's, Byron, Five Guys, Bang Bang Oriental, and Bubblewrap round out this week's new openings.

Nando’s, Byron, Miller & Carter and All Bar One have all signed up to the major new Bell Court leisure and retail scheme in Stratford in Warwickshire. The development will launch in the summer, and features an Everyman cinema as well as the restaurants.

Cocktail bar group Be At One has secured a second site in Leeds. It is on Boar Lane in the city centre, and covers 3,000 square feet over two floors. It should open at the end of April. It is the first time Be At One has opened a second site in a city beyond London. The group currently has 31 sites around the UK. Director Steve Locke said: “We’re really excited to have secured a second site in Leeds as it marks another milestone in the Be At One journey. We have been in the city for two years and think there is a great opportunity to open a successful, high turnover, smaller unit.”

Five Guys has picked up a new site on Claphan High Street. It is a 3,500 square feet site with 120 covers and should open in early summer. The deal for the unit was secured by Shelley Sandzer. Five Guys’ head of property Neville Maling said: “We are thrilled to expand the brand’s presence in such a vibrant and dynamic part of south London.” The Five Guys brand has also agreed a deal to open at the Mall in Wood Green.

The Revolution Bars Group will open one of its new-look Revolution bars and restaurants in Southend in late April. The major site will have 206 covers across 3,700 square feet on the ground floor and another 1,500 square feet on the first floor.

University Green, the large new leisure and retail area being developed by Manchester University in the Corridor Manchester area, has signed up its first brands, including Pret a Manger and coffeeshop Takk, which already has one site in the city’s Northern Quarter. The scheme will cover 40,000 square feet when it opens in summer 2018. Commenting on the first signings, Toby Sproll, head of retail and leisure at developer Bruntwood, said: “We are thrilled to have secured such quality operators and retailers as part of the first wave of signings for University Green. Our focus is to create an exciting mix of retail and leisure for the significant population that study, work and live in Corridor Manchester.”

Coffeeshop and wine bar group Notes says it will open 14 new sites in the next few years after agreeing a £600,000 loan from OakNorth. It currently has six London sites with two more, including its biggest yet, to launch in the capital shortly.

Brazilian concept Rodizio Rico has launched a spin-off ‘rodizio de pizza’ restaurant called Osteria Rodizio Rico at the Cube in Birmingham. It already has a core brand restaurant there.

Italian pizza and craft beer brand Lievito has just opened a debut UK site on Fulham Road in London. It specialises in Calabrian dishes and speciality beers, and has 45 covers over a 1,100 square feet unit. The deal was struck with the Sloane Stanley estate. Lievito is Italian for yeast.

A pan-Asian ‘hub’ concept called Bang Bang Oriental will open on Edgware Road in north London this summer. It will incorporate a flagship Golden Dragon restaurant plus kiosks serving various Asian countries’ food, as well as a food court and retail elements.

Hong Kong street snack waffle brand Bubblewrap has just opened on Wardour Street on Soho. It is a 515 square feet café serving egg waffle cones with various sweet toppings.

Turtle Bay has confirmed 23 April for the opening of its new 230-cover restaurant in Middlesbrough.

Carluccio’s has just opened its latest new restaurant at the Mell Square development in Solihull.

Brakspear has reopened its managed pub the Townhouse in Stratford-upon-Avon after a major refurbishment. It was previously known as the Church street Townhouse and has been revamped with a 74-cover dining space and 12 bedrooms.

Jamie Oliver’s Jamie’s Italian is to open in Iceland’s capital Reykjavik under franchise.

The Head of Steam pub group has lined up an opening on Hanover Street in Liverpool, the Liverpool Echo reports. It currently has 14 pubs in the north of England.

Shaftesbury has announced an opening for coffee shop concept Boki on Earlham Street on Seven Dials. The venture opened in 2015, and has taken a 1,300 square feet unit on Seven Dials. It follows the opening of tea specialist My Cup of Tea close by. Addy Williams, retail leasing and strategy surveyor at Shaftesbury, said: “Boki will add another eye-catching new café with a really attractive design concept. My Cup of Tea has already been trading well and attracting visitors who are curious to see their unique offer. Both brands provide visitors with a haven to relax and drink in the atmosphere whilst at Seven Dials in the heart of the West End.”

Wahaca has applied for permission to open Temple Street in the business district of Birmingham.

Cambridge barbecue restaurant Smokeworks is to open a second restaurant in the city in mid-June. It will be on Station Road there.

Rumpus Room, the bar at the Mondrian London hotel, will reopen on 31 March after a refurbishment.
