Products including a queue-reducing app and compostable cutlery are among the winners of the Innovation Awards at this year’s Hotelympia show in London.

The WI-Q app is one of a number of solutions on the market now offering people the chance to order and pay for their food with mobile devices, without any passwords or roaming charges. The compostable cutlery is from Vegware, and is made from 100% recycled plant material. The third and final award winner is a machine called Multiple Choice from Carpigiani UK, which can produce three different types of ice cream and four flavours of milkshake, and is able to turn out up to 40 cones and 250 milkshakes an hour.

The three winners were chosen from pitches made to judges at the Hotelympia show yesterday (1 March). The products will be on display at the event for the rest of the show. Toby Wand, managing director at Fresh Montgomery, said: “Congratulations to our three winners for truly showing the way when it comes to product innovation and ingenuity and very well done to all of our finalists. I know the judges were faced with a herculean task in separating them, such was the quality on show.”
