New openings round-up

Brands with opening news for the final few days before Christmas and beyond into 2016 include Levi Roots, GBK, Nando’s, Coast to Coast, Tortilla, Honest Burgers, Wildwood, Turtle Bay, the Botanist, Costa and many more.

Levi Roots’ Caribbean Smokehouse, the restaurant concept developed by Levi Roots with Las Iguanas founder Eren Ali, has opened in Westfield Stratford (pictured).

Gourmet Burger Kitchen opened at the Intu Potteries shopping centre in Hanley near Stoke on Monday (7 December). Nando’s is following there on Wednesday (16 December) and Coast to Coast a few days later. They join brands already open there including Chiquito, PizzaExpress

Tortilla has opened at the Intu Victoria shopping centre in Nottingham—its second restaurant in the city and 27th in all. 

Honest Burgers opens on Blenheim Grove in Peckham on Saturday (12 December). It is the brand’s 11th restaurant. It is marking the launch with a giveaway of 500 burgers. 

The Tasty group’s Wildwood brand has applied for permission to open restaurants in both York and Llandudno in north Wales, local media report.

Turtle Bay opens in Cardiff tomorrow (11 December). 

New World Trading Company has opened a branch of its Botanist concept in Marlow. It is a 180-cover site.

Costa has launched a new food-on-the-go concept store on Tottenham Court Road called Costa Fresco. It is selling a range of hot and cold all-day food, including breakfast items, as well as coffee. It is the only store for now but more could follow.

Yummy Pub Co opens the Stoke Newington Tea House tomorrow (11 December). The venue will have beer on hand pulls plus wine and cocktails, but also around 100 different styles of teas and accompanying cakes. It is the sixth site for Yummy Pub Co, joining the Somers Town in Euston, the Gorringe in Tooting, the Wiremill near Lingfield, the Victoria in Mile End and the Grove Ferry in Canterbury.

The Brewhouse and Kitchen group will open in Sutton Coldfield on Monday (14 December).

Brewdog opens in Clerkenwell and Aberdeen tomorrow (11 December). The Aberdeen site is on Castlegate and is its second in the town.

Hawaiian concept Kua ‘Aina has opened at the Victoria Square shopping centre in Belfast. It is the brand’s first opening outside London. 

Shake Shack has set next Friday (18 December) for the opening of its previously announced next London restaurant on New Oxford Street. 

Boston Tea Party opens a second site in Bath on Saturday (12 December). It is Alfred Street opposite the Bath Assembly Rooms.

The Urban Pubs and Bars group launches a year-long pop-up bar and café themed around the game of ping-pong at the Westfield Stratford centre on Monday (14 December). The Bat and Ball occupies a 12,000 square feet unit over two floors, and features ten ping-pong tables and VIP rooms for hire, plus a lounge bar and deli. 

M Restaurants, the group set up by Martin Williams, has opened a second restaurant called M, Victoria Street. It has a steak and grill dining room and a raw bar. The first M restaurant is on Threadneedle Street.

Geronimo Inns has relaunched the Clarence in Whitehall after a £1.3m refurbishment. Changes include a new dining space called the Tin Belly Dining room with space for 40 seated and 60 standing.

Stonegate Pub Company has reopened the Grapes pub in Formby in its Classic Inns division after a £500,000 refurb.
