Openings round-up

BrewDog, Jollibee, Tonkotsu and Truman's round out this week's list of new openings.

BrewDog says it has 20 new bars under construction in the UK and worldwide. Co-founder James Watt tweeted that the new UK locations would include Plymouth, Exeter, Manchester, Chelmsford, Basingstoke, Bath, Ealing, Belfast, Headingley, Huddersfield, Bradford and Lincoln.

Truman’s is opening what it says will be the UK’s largest beer hall in London. The Truman’s Social Club will have room for 700 people across 26,000 square feet on Blackhorse Lane in Walthamstow. It will have around 20 beers on tap, street food from local operators and various events and entertainment, and will open from 9am to 10pm seven days a week. The beer hall is scheduled to open on 28 October. Truman’s has operated a beer garden drinking space on the site since the end of lockdown.

London ramen group Tonkotsu opens its latest new restaurant on Hoe Street in Walthamstow in November. It is Tonkotsu’s 12th location in all.

The Crate Brewery and restaurant operator Silo London are collaborating on a new sustainability-driven market in Hackney Wick called the White Building Market. It will operate from Thursdays to Sundays from next Thursday (22 October). Crate currently operates a tap room and pizza restaurant in the building.

Filipino brand Jollibee is opening in Nottingham as it continues a rollout in the UK. Its current locations are in Earls Court and Liverpool, with a Leicester restaurant due to launch soon.

London’s Caribbean street food concept Rudie’s Jerk Shack is opening a first permanent restaurant on Market Row in Brixton. It has previously operated at Boxpark Shoreditch and Borough Market. The Brixton site is due to open in November.

The Buck Street Market element of Camden Market is getting a new Indonesian concept called Rendang + Rice. It has been founded by Jasmin Ayling, a former head of innovation at Wagamama and a 2019 MasterChef quarter finalist.

The St John Bakery is opening a third site on Borough High Street in London next Monday (19 October). The other two sites for the bakery, a spin-off concept from the St John restaurant, are in Bermondsey and Covent Garden, and it also operates at Islington Market. The Black and White Hospitality group is opening a Marco’s New York Italian restaurant at the Holiday Inn hotel in Blackpool, which is scheduled to launch in 2022.

Cheeky Burger, a mobile operator that has operated at markets, festivals and events for several years, is opening a first permanent restaurant on Camberwell Church Street in south London.
