Openings round-up

Wagamama, Fuller's, Carluccio's and Taka round out this week's list of new openings.

US fast casual brand Slim Chickens is to open its ninth UK restaurant in Manchester’s Trafford Centre in November as it continues a rollout under the Boparan Restaurant Group. At 2,500 square feet the site is Slim Chickens’ biggest yet, and will have a dedicated bar. It will join sites in Bluewater, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff and Southampton, plus three in London.

Wagamama has set 18 October for the opening of its new restaurant in the leisure park in Crawley. It had originally been scheduled to launch just before the pandemic.

Fuller’s is opening a new pub, The White Horse, in the Wembley Park retail and leisure development in London. It is due to launch next Friday (2 October).

The Boparan Restaurant Group is reopening three more Carluccio’s restaurants on Monday (28 September)—in Derby, Kingston and Manchester Piccadilly.

Thai restaurant brand Giggling Squid opens on Wheeler Street in Cambridge on Monday (28 September). The 150-cover restaurant is Giggling Squid’s 36th opening and its biggest venue to date.

Five Guys has applied for permission to open at Parrs Wood Entertainment Centre in Didsbury, according to local media.

Gail’s Bakery will open at the Tunsgate Quarter development in Guildford in late October.

Pieminster has just opened a new restaurant in Stroud—its 16th location in all.

Japanese Mayfair restaurant Taka has just opened a second restaurant on Marylebone High Street. It has taken on a unit previously operated by The Providores.

The Bao group is opening a fourth location: Café Bao on Pancras Square in Kings Cross. It will have an all-day menu with bakery and breakfast items, and is due to open in late November. Bao’s other three restaurants are in Soho, Borough and Fitzrovia.

The team behind the Jolene restaurant in Newington Green has opened a new spin-off restaurant and bakery called Big Jo on Hornsey Road near Holloway.

Vegan pizza restaurant group Purezza has opened this week on Gloucester Road in Bristol. It joins three other Purezza restaurants in London, Brighton and Hove.

US diner-style brand Wendy’s is recruiting for a new opening in Reading, according to local media, as it prepares for a relaunch into the UK. The Reading restaurant is due to open in early 2021.

London supper club and pop-up business Smoke & Salt opened its first permanent restaurant on Tooting High Street this week.

A new Japanese restaurant called Bishushima is opening later this year on St Martin’s Place in London, on the rooftop of the new Page8 hotel.

The Big Mamma group has launched a delivery-only operation called Napoli Gang in Shoreditch.

Singapore restaurant operator Ellen Chew Is opening a new concept restaurant at the Grand Central development in Birmingham before the end of the year. Mrs Chew’s Chinese Kitchen is a 60-cover and 1,500 square feet operation.

The Pod Park group has submitted proposals for a new ‘shipping container village’ of eating out and retail operators at Seaton Delaval in Northumberland. It will be called Laidlers Market.
