US brand Wendy’s has set out plans for more restaurant openings as it approaches the milestone of 50 sites in the UK. It will launch in Blackpool, Lakeside, Watford, York and Glasgow—which will be its first restaurant in Scotland. Wendy’s has ambitions to reach 150 locations in the UK.
Hammerson will launch a new street food market called District at the Brent Cross centre in north London next week. The line-up of operators will include Sides, the brand set up by YouTube influencers Sidemen, barbecue concept Smoky Boys, Thai stall Yaay, Italian group Remoli, Cantonese restaurant Three Uncles and central Asian restaurant OshPaz. District will cover 20,000 square feet with a 130-cover seating area.
Vietnamese brand Pho has announced a new opening at the Bluewater shopping centre in Kent. It has also submitted plans for a new restaurant on Park Street in Bristol.
Retro arcade bar group NQ64 opened on Thurland Street in Nottingham this week. It is the brand’s 12th opening.
Burger & Beyond is opening at House of Social in Manchester—its first location outside London. The brand has three sites in London after establishing itself as a mobile operation.
Loungers has reached the milestone of 250 Lounges with a new opening in Norwich this week. The Rivolo Lounge is in the St Anne’s Quarter. Loungers has also received planning permission to open a new Lounge in an old bank building on the high street in Skipton, local media report.
Nando’s is launching in Maidenhead in the late Summer, local media report. It will be situated in the One Maidenhead development.
Thai group Giggling Squid is moving forward with plans to open in an old retail unit in York, local media report. It will have around 200 covers over two floors. Other openings in the pipeline for Giggling Squid including Cobham, Exeter, Godalming and Leeds.
Japanese brand Maki & Ramen is opening on Old Eldon Square in Newcastle. The group currently has nine restaurants in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds and Manchester, with more sites lined up in cities including Aberdeen, Birmingham, Glasgow, Leicester, Nottingham and Sheffield.
Brew York will shortly open a new pub and restaurant concept called Brew + Bao in the Chapel Allerton area of Leeds. It is a collaboration with Asian operator Yuzu, which has five venues in York, Harrogate and Leeds. The 100-cover site in Chapel Allerton was previously occupied by Black Sheep Brewery. Brew York plans to launch more Brew + venues.
Pizza restaurant group Fatto a Mano is about to open at St Katharine Docks by Tower Bridge in London. It will be a seventh location, after three in London and three in Brighton.
Wingstop has just opened at the Cardigan Fields leisure development in Leeds—its fourth location in the city. The group has also just acquired a site on Cathedral Square in Peterborough.
JW Lees has just opened in Llandudno, having acquired the Craigside Manor hotel, pub and restaurant from Whitbread last year.
JD Wetherspoon opened a pub called The London Stone at the Kent Coast Holiday Park in Rochester this week. It is part of a joint venture with the Haven holiday park group.
Angela Hartnett’s Café Murano brand is opening on Dorset Street in Marylebone in the Summer. It will be a fourth location after Bermondsey, Covent Garden and St James’s.
Wasabi opened on King William Street near Monument station in London this week.
