New Openings Roundup 24th January

The latest news on venues opening across the UK.

US-based seafood restaurant chain Captain D’s is launching into the UK after signing a 20-site franchise agreement. The first sites will be in London later this year. Captain D’s currently has around 500 restaurants in 23 US states. 

 

Steakhouse group Flat Iron has announced an opening on the ground floor of the Royal Festival Hall on London’s South Bank. Flat Iron currently has 14 sites in London, alongside restaurants in Cambridge, Leeds and Manchester. 

 

Pesto, the Italian restaurant group owned by Mitchells & Butlers, is opening in Wythall in the West Midlands in early Spring. It will become Pesto’s 11th location in the UK. 

 

International fried chicken group Chicking has applied for permission to open on Royal Parade in Plymouth, local media report. Chicking has 15 UK sites and around 230 worldwide. 

 

Mother Mercy, the cocktail bar group with three sites in Newcastle and one in Sunderland, is about to open a fifth venue in Heaton.  

 

Tapas bar and restaurant brand Camino is opening in two sites previously run by Iberica, which it recently acquired. The Camino concept launched in Farringdon this week and will be followed by Victoria in mid-February. Camino is also lining up a new pintxo bar concept called Pintxito for the Piazza in Covent Garden, to launch in the Spring. 

 

Retro arcade bar brand NQ64 has submitted an application to open in Nottingham, in a unit on Thurland Street previously occupied by Roxy Ball Room. NQ64 currently has 12 sites in the UK. 

 

Pizza brand Rudy’s, part of the Mission Mars group, is recruiting for a new opening at the Parade in Leamington Spa. 

 

Glasgow-based pub and bar group The Superlative Collection will shortly open a new pub called The Noble on Bothwell Street in the city. It has taken over a unit that was previously occupied by Hostmore’s 63rd + 1st concept. The pub will become the group’s seventh venue in Glasgow. 

 

SoBe Burger has announced six new openings—in Farnborough, Harrow, Hemel Hempstead, Edinburgh, Plymouth and Portsmouth. SoBe currently has 12 UK locations. 

 

Chinese restaurant and pub concept Duck & Rice is to open a second site at the revamped Battersea Power Station. The 4,000 square feet venue comes ten years after the launch of the original Duck & Rice in Soho. 

 

US brand Chick-fil-A is opening two restaurants in Northern Ireland under a franchise agreement with motorway services group Applegreen. They will be at the Lisburn South and Templepatrick services. Chick-fil-A is beginning a rollout across the UK. 

 

Liverpool’s Movement Group opens a fourth venue next week—an all-day bar and live music venue called Sips on Slater Street. 

 

Domino’s has reached the milestone of 1,300 UK sites with a franchise opening Ballymena in Northern Ireland. 

 

Residence, a café, bar and restaurant concept with two sites in Leeds, is opening a third in the city. The venue in the Moortown area follows the two others in Headingley and Cookridge.
