New Openings Roundup 20th June

The latest news on venues opening across the UK.

Seafood restaurant group Rockfish has just opened in Salcombe in Devon. It is the brand’s 13th site. Another restaurant is opening in the autumn in Sidmouth. 

 

US brand Dave’s Hot Chicken is opening in Birmingham and Manchester shortly, after launching into the UK on London’s Shaftesbury Avenue. 

 

Vietnamese group Pho has applied for permission to open at the Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet. 

 

Pizzeria brand Crust Bros is opening a third London restaurant on Bedford Street in Covent Garden in early July. It has taken on a two-floor unit that was previously occupied by Paul. Crust Bros’ other two sites are in Earls Court and Waterloo. 

 

US brand Carl’s Jr has confirmed restaurant openings in cities including Bristol, Leeds, Manchester, Southampton, Swansea and York as it begins a roll-out in the UK under the Boparan Restaurant Group. Its first launch here was at the St David’s Centre in Cardiff. 

 

Manchester’s healthy all-day eating concept Acai and the Tribehas just opened its first location in London—a 1,300 square feet unit on Sloane Stanley’s Fulham Road. It has also lined up a new site in Altrincham. 

 

Wagamama has set 16 July for the opening of its latest new restaurant at the Cotswolds Designer Outlet off the M5. 

 

The Heartwood Collection has just opened The Ragged Robin in Godalming in Surrey—its sixth pub with rooms. It is also about to launch a site in Marlow in Buckinghamshire. 

 

SSP is opening various new sites at Leeds-Bradford Airport after securing a new 14-year deal there. They will include Monty’s Diner, a US-style concept that SSP launched at Liverpool John Lennon Airport earlier this year, two new bars called Tap & Brew and Juniper Bar, plus established brands Burger King, Starbucks, Upper Crust and AMT Coffee. 

 

Plans have been submitted for a new food court and bar at the underpass near the IMAX cinema in London’s Waterloo. It will be a 1,200 capacity venue and is scheduled to launch before Christmas if plans are approved. 

 

US brand Shake Shack launched on Petty Cury in Cambridge last week. It is the group’s 17th site in the UK. 

 

Zumuku Sushi has submitted plans to open on Upper Northgate Street in Chester, local media report. The group currently has 12 restaurants around north west England, plus dark kitchens in several major cities. 

 

Better burger brand Five Akhis has opened its ninth restaurant in Banbury. It comes soon after openings in Nottingham and Sheffield. 

 

Duck & Rice, a Chinese restaurant set up by Wagamama founder Alan Yau, is launching a second site at the redeveloped Battersea Power Station shortly. The original Duck & Rice is in Soho. 

 

Dubai-based pan-Asian concept Shanghai Me is launching into the UK with a restaurant on the rooftop of the London Hilton hotel on Park Lane. It has been developed by the Fundamental Hospitality group.

 

Popeyes will open a drive-through and eat-in restaurant in Stowmarket shortly—its first location in Suffolk. 

 

Café Kitsune, a Belgravia concept run by the Sunset Hospitality Group, opens a second site on Monmouth Street in Covent Garden next week. 

 

Boss Pizza opened in Bradford this week—a fifth location after Acton, Colchester, Hamilton, Larkhall and Walsall. There are several more locations in the pipeline, including Glasgow and Nottingham.
