New Openings Roundup 20th December

The latest news on venues opening across the UK.

Milton Keynes’ centre: MK development has announced three new openings, including a 3,500 square feet site for Bill’s—the group’s first new location in six years. Also just open are a 2,650 square feet unit for Cornish Bakery and a 2,800 square feet space for Starbucks. Around 20 brands have opened or reinvested at centre:mk in 2024.

 

Six by Nico has submitted plans to open a new restaurant on Queen Street in Nottingham, local media report. The Six by Nico brand currently has 16 locations in the UK and has another opening in the pipeline at Quakers Friars in Bristol in February.

 

Slim Chickens has announced an opening in London’s Wood Green—its 58th UK location under a rollout with the Boparan Restaurant Group. It has also just opened on Regent Street in Cambridge.

 

Loungers has applied for permission to open on the Broadway in Plymstock near Plymouth, local media report. It plans to convert an old retail building there.

 

The SSP Group has opened a new Peaky Blinders themed restaurant and bar at Birmingham Airport. It is called Shelby and Co Bar and Restaurant and focuses on local food and drink.

 

The Lakes Brew Co is to set up a taproom in Ambleside in Cumbria in early 2025. The company currently runs a monthly pop-up bar in Kendal.

 

All-day restaurant brand Willow is opening a third location at Mulberry Walk in the Mere Green retail area near Sutton Coldfield in February, in a unit previously occupied by Prezzo. Willow is run by the Parogon group, and its other two restaurants are in Trentham and Telford.

 

London tapas group Camino is launching restaurants in Farringdon and Victoria after acquiring sites from the administrators of Iberica. They will reopen in January after refurbishment. Camino has three other restaurants, in Shoreditch, Monument and King’s Cross.

 

Somewhere, a Dubai-based Middle Eastern restaurant concept, has set up an operation in Harrods—its first UK location. Somewhere has seven sites around the Middle East.

 

Experiential venue group Gravity has opened a major new Gravity Arcade venue at the Bluewater centre in Kent. It is a new sister brand for Gravity’s Active, Max and Social concepts.

 

Turkey-based burger group Ohannes is about to open on Devonshire Street in Sheffield. Ohannes now has 12 restaurants in the UK, with two more to come from the Sheffield franchisee.

 

The Derby Brewing Co is to launch a third pub after acquiring the Papermill in Darley Abbey near Derby. It will relaunch as Little Darley in late January.

 

Sheffield’s Two Thirds Beer bar and shop concept is to launch a new beer hall and restaurant at the Heart of the City development. It will be a 4,500 square feet operation called Kapital. Two Thirds Beer’s original Sheffield site is on Abbeydale Road.

 

Gail’s has just opened in the arcade at London Bridge station. It follows close behind Gail’s first move into the travel space at St Pancras.

 

German Doner Kebab has opened in Bolton, local media report—its 144th site in the UK.

 

Scotland’s Buzzworks Holdings group launched a new Lido restaurant at Musselburgh in East Lothian last weekend. Buzzworks has other Lido branches in Prestwick and Troon.
