New Openings Roundup 16th May

The latest news on venues opening across the UK.

JD Wetherspoon opened the Conister Arms in Douglas on the Isle of Man this week—its first pub on the island. It has also confirmed opening dates for four more new pubs over the next four months: the Walham Green on London’s Fulham Road on 17 June, The Dictum of Kenilworth in Kenilworth on 30 July, the Sun Wharf in London Bridge on 26 August and the King of Essex in Basildon’s Eastgate shopping centre on 23 September. 

 

Vietnamese brand Pho opened on Mount Pleasant Road in Tunbridge Wells this week. The group now has 47 restaurants around the UK.

 

Tigermilk, a Latin American hacienda-style restaurant group with nine sites in France and one in Belgium, will launch its first London operation in mid-June. It has taken on a 140-cover unit on Charing Cross Road. 

 

Jamie Oliver Restaurants has opened a café and cookery school on the third floor of the John Lewis flagship store on Oxford Street in London. John Lewis is planning to add more restaurants and cafes to its stores throughout the year.  

 

The Dodo Pub Company is about to open a pub called The High Horse in Newbury in Berkshire. It will become the group’s tenth pub. 

 

South east Asian group The Banana Tree has set 2 June for the opening of its latest new restaurant on Mill Lane in Cardiff. It will be the brand’s 22nd location and its biggest so far, with 250 covers.  

 

Pizza Pilgrims is to open on Deansgate in Manchester before the end of the summer, local media report.  

 

The Heartwood Collection has opened the Prince of Wales in East Barnet—its 29th site. Another opening follows in Godalming in June.

 

Glasgow-based pizzeria Paesano will open a third site in the city next week, on Pollokshaws Road in Shawlands. 

 

Japanese brand The Sushi Co and dessert specialist Creams are both opening at the East Square development in Basildon, local media report. The Sushi Co also has new sites lined up in Brighton, Hendon, Northwich, Redhill, Tower Bridge and Worthing. 

 

US-style smash burger restaurant group SoBe has opened on London Street in Norwich—its 15th UK location.  

 

Thornbridge & Co, a new joint venture between Thornbridge Brewery and Pivovar, is opening a pub called The Fargate in Sheffield in the autumn. The 250-cover pub over two floors is in an old bank building in Fargate. 

 

Yolk opened on High Holborn this week—its tenth location in the capital.  

 

Dumplings’ Legend, a restaurant in London’s Chinatown, has just opened a sister brand called Love Dumplings’ Legend on Chancery Lane.

 

Cinnamon Kitchen opened a third restaurant and its first outside London this week, at the Queens Hotel in Leeds.  

 

Leeds-based café-bar concept Residence will open a third venue in the Moortown area of the city next week.  

 

Bristol-based Turkish restaurant Cappadocia will soon open a second site on Whiteladies Road in the Clifton area of the city. 

 

Lane 7 has announced a new 23,000 square feet site at Trinity Leeds. It is due to launch in early 2026.
