New Openings Roundup 12th July

The latest news on venues opening across the UK.

The Be At One cocktail bar group is opening a second site in Liverpool, local media report—on North John Street. It will be the 38th Be At One location in the UK. The opening is a conversion of a pub called the William Gladstone run by the Stonegate group, which owns the Be At One brand. 

 

Sticks n Sushi has announced a new opening on Upper Street in Islington in September. The 120-cover, 3,500 square feet restaurant will become the brand’s 14th location in the UK, and its first in north London. It follows a recent launch in Richmond. 

 

Pizza Pilgrims will open on High Street in Cardiff in mid-August, local media report. The 90-cover site will be the group’s first location in Wales. 

 

The Cut & Craft, a steakhouse concept with restaurants in York and Leeds, will open a third site in a Grade II listed old bank building on Mosley Street in Manchester in the autumn. 

 

PizzaExpress is launching a new on-the-go ‘Pizza Pod’ format in partnership with Tesco, according to reports. It is recruiting for its first site at a Tesco store in Southampton. 

 

US fast food brand Dave’s Hot Chicken is launching in the UK under a partnership with the Azzurri Group. It plans to open up to 60 sites in the UK, with the first coming in London early next year. Dave’s Hot Chicken has around 200 restaurants in the US, having started out as a mobile operation in a car park in Los Angeles, and is now expanding under franchise at a rate of two new openings a week. 

 

Wagamama will open on Whitehall Street in Dundee in mid-August. The 128-cover site will be a tenth location in Scotland for the brand and brings its total UK estate to 167. 

 

The Lussmans group is lining up an opening in Highgate in London in late August. It will be Lussmans’ first London opening for 20 years. The brand has five restaurants in Hertfordshire, with another to follow in Woburn late this year.  

 

Fried chicken brand Wingers has confirmed five new franchised openings in the UK—in Birmingham, Harborne, Telford, Watford and West Bridgford. Wingers is aiming to have 20 sites in the country by the end of this year, and 50 by the end of 2028. 

 

The Black & White hospitality group has opened the first site under its new Marco Pierre White Ale House brand—the Queen’s Head in Folkestone. 

 

London’s Bohem brewery has opened a second pub—the Nicholas Nickleby in Finsbury Park. 

 

Indian restaurant group Kricket has confirmed an opening on Frobisher Passage in Canary Wharf. It will soft launch in August with a full opening in September, and becomes the fourth location for the brand, after Brixton, Soho and White City.  

 

West African street food operator Jollof Mama has just opened its first permanent site—at the Banana Warehouse in Seven Dials in London.  

 

A new Japanese temaki and sashimi concept called Ukiyo has launched on Slingsby Place at The Yards in Covent Garden. The 1,640 square feet restaurant will also have a basement space from September. 

 

Wendy’s opened its third restaurant in Hull this week—on Jameson Street in the city. 

 

The JKS Restaurants group will open its third pub in partnership with Dominic Jacobs next week—The Hound in Chiswick. The other two pubs are in Mayfair and Fitzrovia.
