New Openings Roundup 10th May

The latest news on venues opening across the UK.

Dishoom has confirmed plans for an opening of its Permit Room sister concept on New Inn Hall Street in Oxford in October. It will have 126 covers. The all-day Bombay café-style concept is also opening on Trinity Street in Cambridge in mid-June. The original Permit Room is in Brighton. 

 

A major new food, drink and entertainment hall called Metropolis London is opening at the Railway Arches at Albert Embankment at the end of May. It will have aa street food vendors and a bar, with space for 500 people across 8,000 square feet of space. The line-up of vendors includes Asian, Caribbean, Mexican, Mediterranean and African concepts. 

 

Korean street food style concept Bunsik will open on Earl’s Court Road in Kensington next week. The 1,600 square feet location will become the sixth Bunsik location.

 

Gordon Ramsay Restaurants has announced five new openings at the 22 Bishopsgate development in London. The will including a third UK site for the group’s Asian-inspired Lucky Cat brand, which it claims will become the highest restaurant in the UK. The Bread Street Kitchen & Bar brand will also open a seventh site there, along with a food academy. 

 

The SSP group has just opened two new adjacent bars and restaurants in the departures area of Cardiff airport: Y Castell and Tap & Brew Craft Beer and Kitchen. 

 

Notting Hill restaurant The Counter is opening a second London site on Kingly Street in Soho on 14 May. 

 

Fried chicken brand Wingstop has just launched at the new leisure quarter of the Merry Hill retail and leisure development. Burger restaurant Boo is also due to open at the centre.

 

The Livelyhood pub group has acquired a seventh site: the Bull on Wanstead High Street. It is a first east London location for the group, after six openings in south London. 

 

Healthy eating concept Atis is opening a new flagship site on Regent Street in London in early June. It will be a sixth location after Old Street, Eccleston Yards, Notting Hill, Canary Wharf and Borough Yards. Four more sites are in the pipeline in Battersea, Covent Garden, Monument and Moorgate. 

 

US fried chicken brand Popeyes is opening its first restaurant in Northern Ireland as it continues a rapid rollout in the UK. It will be at the Forestside shopping centre in Belfast. 

 

Afro-Caribbean restaurant group Manjaros has received permission to open on London Road in Leicester. It has taken on an old bank building there. Manjaros currently has 18 sites in the UK. 

 

London’s Mayfair Chippy is opening a second site, on Brompton Road in Knightsbridge. 

 

Wendy’s is preparing an opening in an old retail unit on Captain Cook’s Square in Middlesbrough, local media report.  

 

Dalston-based Jones & Sons is launching a second location, on the High Road in South Woodford. 

 

Liverpool-based coffee brand 92 Degrees has just opened at the city’s Lime Street station. Another opening is following at Liverpool Central station as part of plans to expand into travel hubs.
