Franco Manca has opened its 50th restaurant, and its first in Scotland, at the Mint Building on South St Andrew Street in Edinburgh. It has also submitted an application to open a restaurant on Mitchell Street in Glasgow, local media report.
The Breakfast Club is to open a second Soho restaurant in the next few weeks, having taken over the old Polpetto site on Berwick Street. The original Breakfast Club opened on D’Arblay Street in Soho in 2005. The group currently has 11 sites around London.
Son of Steak is to open a second restaurant in Cheltenham’s Brewery Quarter on 23 September. It will replace a branch of Harvester in a unit with around 100 covers and 42 more on a terrace. Son of Steak’s original location is in Nottingham.
Mitchells & Butlers’ steakhouse concept Miller & Carter is opening in Scunthorpe in mid-September. It is a conversion of a pub that was formerly a Sizzling Pub Company brand.
Bistrot Pierre has submitted plans for an opening on Worthing seafront. The overhaul of an old shelter there would create a restaurant with 110 covers, plus 60 more on a terrace.
Hotel Chocolat has signed to open a 320 square feet café at the Woking Shopping centre on 13 September. Other brands currently operating there include Côte, Bill’s, Carluccio’s, Las Iguanas and Loungers.
Germany-based salad chain Choppaluna is to open in London’s Bloomsbury in October as it begins a UK rollout under franchise owner Hero Brands. It says it has secured units in 12 more locations around the country, with Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Manchester among the cities mentioned.
US-style Jewish deli Monty’s Deli is to open at the new Seven Dials Market in Covent Garden. Monty’s has sites in Old Spitalfields Market and Market Halls Victoria but recently closed its Hoxton location.
JD Wetherspoon has applied for permission to open a pub in Newport Pagnell in Buckinghamshire. It comes three years after an initial application was rejected.

Champagne brand Laurent Perrier is to run a new sky lounge bar within Hadrian’s Tower in Newcastle, local media report. The bar will be called Three 60. Work on the tower, which will be the highest building in Newcastle, is ongoing.
Vegetarian Middle Eastern concept Bubala is to open a permanent restaurant on Commercial Street in Spitalfields in mid-September. It has operated as a pop-up at various London venues over the last year.
