US-based fast-food chain The Halal Guys opens its second UK restaurant on Earls Court Road on Saturday (10 August). It follows the success of the first London site in Leicester Square. A third opening in the capital has been lined up.
Wagamama is to open a second restaurant in Cambridge in late September. It has taken on a unit at Cambridge Leisure Park that was previously occupied by Chiquito and will join brands there including Nando’s and Frankie & Benny’s.
Hard Rock Café intends to open on Newcastle’s Quayside, according to local media. It wants to refurbish the Grade 1 listed Guildhall there.
The D&D London group is to open a major restaurant and events space in Bristol. It has taken on a unit in Quakers Friars previously occupied by Brasserie Blanc and will open its new 13,000 square feet site early next year. It will have a bar, private dining and terrace space as well as the restaurant. It continues a regional expansion for D&D after openings in Manchester and Leeds.
London cocktail bar group Tequila Mockingbird has acquired its fourth site—a unit on Atlantic Road in Brixton previously occupied by Dip & Flip. It joins three other Tequila Mockingbird venues in Clapham, Putney and Tooting, and will be the first one to offer food alongside drinks.
Bradford bar and restaurant Alibi is to reopen in Halifax. It has taken on the lease of a Georgian mansion in the town and will open a refurbished 3,400 square feet all-day venue by the end of August.

Whitbread’s steakhouse concept Bar + Block is to launch by a Premier Inn hotel in Winnersh in Berkshire next week. The 190-cover restaurant will become the 11th Bar + Block for Whitbread, and its first in an out of town location.
Dishoom is to expand its restaurant on Upper St Martin’s Lane in Covent Garden, after acquiring an adjacent unit previously occupied by Jamie’s Italian. It will open in 2020 after the £8 million refurbishment of St Martin’s Courtyard completes in December.
