New openings round-up

Bar + Block, Corbin & King, D&D London, Loungers and Mowgli Street Food round out this week's new openings.

Gusto Pronto Group has acquired its fifth pub, The Fox in Bulmer Tye, to their portfolio. The site is undergoing a small refurbishment ahead of the reopening. The company also operates four other sites in Bury St Edmunds alongside its craft brewery, Brewshed

Whitbread is to open a Bar + Block site this month. The restaurant will open at its Premier Inn hotel in Winnersh, Berkshire on August 16. The restaurant will feature 189 covers and will of course have the brand’s trademark open kitchen and copper feature bar. This will be the eleventh site for the brand.

Corbin & King is to open a second site under their The Wolseley name in London’s Monument. The 11-storey, 97,538-square-foot building is located at the head of London Bridge, directly above Monument station.

Troia (UK) Restaurants, the parent company of Harry’s and the Ivy Collection, has applied for a licence in the name of Harry’s for the former Jamie’s Italian site in The Hayes, and part of the city’s St David’s shopping centre, reports Wales Online. 

Fafa, a Finnish street food concept, will launch its first London restaurant in Seven Dials in September. The brand is the brainchild of Doron Karavani and boasts over 40 sites across Denmark, Estonia and Finland.

Loungers has secured a site for its Cosy Club brand in Basingstoke, Hampshire. The brand will occupy a former Giraffe site in the town in October. The group has plans to open five Cosy Club sites before April 2020, alongside 20 Lounges.

Natural fast food brand Leon is opening its second site in the US, on New York Avenue. Leon made its stateside debut with L Street back in 2018 and has since announced plans to open 20 more sites over the next three years.

Crazy golf brand Caddies has confirmed plans to open a second site. The brand launched in Southend in May last year and will now move into St Peter’s Street in Derby.

Five Guys is to open a site in Bromley, south west London, next month. The company will open the venue in Market Square on August 5. The opening is part of a larger expansion plan, with sites lined up in Cambridge, Plymouth and Worcester.

Indian street food concept Mowgli is opening two new sites. The brand, founded by Nisha Katona, will open a site in Church Street in Cardiff this week and one in Leicester in mid-August. Mowgli currently operates in Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham, Oxford and Sheffield. Sites in Bristol and Preston are also in the pipeline.

US fast food chain The Halal Guys is to open in Earl’s Court in the city on August 10. This the brand’s second opening in London and is part of a wider rollout in the UK.

US brand Eggslut is the open in Notting Hill later this month. The opening, born in LA, will be based on Portobello Road and serves an ‘all-day egg’ concept.

D&D London are to open a new rooftop restaurant in London later in the year. 14 Hills will be situated on the 14th floor of 120 Fenchurch Street and will serve an all-day menu created by executive chef Thomas Piat.

Coppa Club is opening a venue in Berkshire this month as part of a £12m refurbishment of Osmond’s Thames-side venue The Swan at Streatley.

Avenue Group is opening its fourth site at 25A Mann Island (between the Royal Albert Dock and the Three Graces), Liverpool. Mann Island Social is described as a space dedicated to “eating better and eating together.”

MasterChef finalist Matt Healy and his company, Seventh Course, have just opened their first pub, The Beehive in Thorner, near Leeds, following a joint £180,000 refurbishment with Star Pubs & Bars.

The Secret Pub Company (with Star Pubs & Bars) is reopening The New Trent in Radcliffe-on-Trent. The Radcliffe has a new bar and a 75-cover dining space.

Wells & Co has acquired added the Oliver Cromwell in St Ives, Cambridgeshire. for its tenanted estate. The pub dates to the 18th century and underwent renovation 12 years ago.

Amber Taverns has opened one of its Hogarths brand in Stafford. The company has launched the venue in Gaolgate Street having transformed the former Dorothy Perkins store.

Severn Cider has opened its debut pub, Dick Whittington’s. The 13th-century inn had been closed since March. The grade I-listed venue was once home to Richard Whittington, who became lord mayor of London.
