New openings round-up

Corazon, Derby Brewing Co, JD Wetherspoon, Pret and MEATliquor round out this week's list of new openings.

MEATliquor opens a new flagship site on Margaret Street by Oxford Circus station on Tuesday (4 June). It is a relocation for MEATliquor’s original restaurant around 500m away, into a unit that was previously occupied by Match Bar.

The Alchemist has secured a licence for an opening at Gunwharf Keys in Portsmouth. It got permission to launch in the unit, previously occupied by Strada, despite local objections. The Alchemist is also scheduled to open at Brindleyplace in Birmingham in August.

JD Wetherspoon opens a new pub called the Captain Alexander on James Street in Liverpool on Tuesday (4 June).

Brixton bar and bottle shop The Wine Parlour has just opened a second site in Brixton Village. The original Wine Parlour site is on Vining Street off Atlantic Road in Brixton.

Healthy on the go brand Crussh is working in partnership with Sodexo to open a branch at Birmingham Children’s Hospital in the summer. It is its first opening in the healthcare sector.

Mexican restaurant operator Corazon opened a taco bar in the Café Court area of Westfield London on Wednesday (29 May). The first Corazon is on Poland Street in Soho.

Wolf Italian opened a seventh restaurant on Wednesday (29 May), on Market Street in Nottingham. The franchised street food style concept also operates in Chiswick, Leeds, Manchester, BoxPark Wembley and Reading, where it has two sites. A Glasgow opening is due to follow soon.

Chinese street food style operator Baozi Inn will open a new flagship restaurant on Southwark Street close to Borough Market in the next few weeks. The three-floor venue will have 120 covers and a cocktail bar. Baozi Inn also has operations on Romilly Street in Soho and in Market Halls in Victoria.

Patterson’s, a fried chicken concept in Liverpool, is to open a second site in the city in the summer. The restaurant on Button Street joins the original on Gradwell Street. Patterson’s also has a site in the street food area of Liverpool’s Baltic Market.

Derby Brewing Co has acquired a fifth site—the Corner Pin in Chellaston. It will relaunch the pub as the Cruck and Barrel. Derby Brewing Co has acquired the lease for the site from Star Pubs & Bars.

The Prada group has opened a first UK site for its upmarket bakery, café and shop brand Pasticceria Marchesi. It has launched on Mount Street in Mayfair, adding to its three sites in Milan.

The Gascon Connection group is to open a ninth site at the Balcony Court area of Westfield London in the next few weeks. Catch Me will be a seafood concept, and will be joining several other operators at the refurbished Balcony Court.

Pret is to move into Belgium by opening branches at two main railway stations in Brussels. The launches are in partnership with SSP and Belgium’s national rail operator.
