New openings round-up

The Craft Beer Co, Fishworks, Leon, The Ivy Collection and YO! Sushi are among the latest new openings.

YO! Sushi opened a restaurant at Ashford Designer Outlet in Kent on Monday (13 May). The 2,30 square feet unit has 54 covers and a ‘YO! To Go’ area. Pret recently opened at the Outlet, which will host many more new brands after an expansion programme.

Shake Shack opened its latest new restaurant at intu Lakeside on Thursday (16 May). It is its second outside London, after Cardiff, and its tenth UK site in all.

The Craft Beer Co opened its latest new pub in Hammersmith late last week. It becomes its ninth venue in all, after Brighton, Brixton, Clerkenwell, Covent Garden, Islington, Limehouse, St Mary Axe and Old Street.

Indian street food style operator Mowgli is to continue its expansion by launching on Corn Street in Bristol and on Friargate in Preston, according to local media. The Bristol site should launch in October, with Preston to follow in 2020.

The Ivy Collection has applied for permission to open on The Hayes in Cardiff, local media report. It comes eight months after the group shelved its original plans to open in the city.

Camerons brewery’s pub group Head of Steam is to open on Park Row in Leeds in the summer. It would be a third venue in the city for the operator, after Mill Hill near the station and Headingley. It has 15 sites around the UK in total, mostly in the north of England.

Leon opened its first site in Ireland this week—in Temple Bar in Dublin. The two-floor, 1,600 square feet venue is a franchise with Cibus Concepts. The venture expects to open 20 sites in Ireland over the next four years. Leon will meanwhile open a site in partnership with Roadchef at the Rownhams service station off the M27 in June.

Thai café group Rosa’s has confirmed details of its new Hoh Sek noodle shop concept that is due to open on St Katherine Docks in London next month. It will operate as an on-the-go concept during the day and more of a restaurant operation in the evening.

TGI Friday’s and Nando’s have both signed deals for units at the Junction leisure and retail development in Antrim in Northern Ireland. They are due to open late this year.

Fishworks has opened a new restaurant on Catherine Street in Covent Garden. It has taken over a site previously occupied by Loch Fyne. Fishworks is run by the Boparan group and has two other restaurants on Marylebone High Street and Swallow Street near Piccadilly Circus.

Burger brand Bleecker is to open at Westfield London in Shepherd’s Bush in September. It will be its fourth restaurant after Old Spitalfields Market, Victoria and the Bloomberg Arcade.

Indian street food style restaurant and bar Bundobust opens its third site on Bold Street in Liverpool next Friday (24 May). The other two Bundobusts are in Leeds and Manchester.

The Yeo Valley Café opened on the West Walk scheme in Queensway in London on Tuesday (14 May). The operation is Yeo Valley’s first outside its headquarters in Somerset, uses produce from its dairy and other local suppliers, and opens from 7.30am to 6pm.

Cantonese steamed bun concept Bun House and Korean brand Oseyo have both opened in London’s Chinatown. Bun House has relocated from Soho to a 56-cover, 1,300 square feet unit on Lisle Street, and Oseyo is on Charing Cross Road. Julia Wilkinson, head of group restaurant strategy at Shaftesbury, said: “Oseyo and Bun House are both fantastic additions to this thriving part of the West End.”

Coqfighter, the fried chicken concept that has operated at Boxpark in Shoreditch and Croydon, will soft launch its first permanent site on Beak Street in Soho next week.

McDonald’s is to submit plans to open a restaurant in Oakham in Rutland—the only county in the country in which it doesn’t yet operate.

Taco Bell opened this week at Chatham Dockside in Kent as it continues a rapid roll-out in the UK.
