New openings round-up

The Ivy Collection, Brewdog, MOD Pizza and Fortnum & Mason round out this week's list of new openings.

BrewDog has opened its first airport bar at Edinburgh Airport. It is located in the new airside development at the airport, and will be open from 4am until after the last flight every day, with an all-day food offer as well as 14 craft beers on tap. It is a third bar in Edinburgh for BrewDog.

US-based customisable pizza concept MOD Pizza says it will open at the Highcross centre in Leicester on 6 December. It is marking the launch with a pizza giveaway to the first 50 customers. MOD has taken over a unit at Highcross previously occupied by Chimichanga. The brand has other UK branches in Watford, Romford, Borehamwood, Leicester Square, Nottingham, Leeds and Gateshead.

The Deltic Group is to open a new Bar and Beyond operation by its Pryzm nightclub in Kingston. It will be a 770-capacity bar. Deltic also runs Bar & Beyond concepts in Chelmsford, Norwich, Sheffield, King’s Lynn and Stevenage.

Brands including Leon, KFC, PizzaExpress, Burger King, Harry Ramsden’s, Starbucks and The Pasty Shop have all signed to open units at a food court at the new motorway service station at Junction 45 of the M1 near Leeds. The development, which will also include a 100-bed Ramada hotel, is due to open next August.Eclectic Bars is opening a new nightclub concept called Le Fez in Putney next weekend. It will incorporate a tropical garden-themed bar area and a ‘Le Club’ space with liver entertainment including comedy, music and musical bingo. It is a refurbishment of Eclectic’s previous Fez operation in Putney.

Pasta Remoli has soft launched its third restaurant at Dickens Yard in Ealing. Its first two restaurants are in Finsbury Park and the Westfield Stratford centre.

Marston’s opens its latest new-build pub on Monday (26 November): the Flying Squirrel at the Quora Retail Park in Lidget Green near Bradford.

The Ivy Collection will open its major new restaurant in Manchester’s Spinningfields on Tuesday (27 November). The Ivy Spinningfields will have 535 covers across four floors, including a ground floor brasserie, private dining spaces, an Asian-themed bar and restaurant and rooftop space with firepits.

Retro arcade games and bar concept Kongs has opened its third site, by Victoria Square in Birmingham. Its restaurant element will be provided by Burger Theory, which has also partnered with Kongs at its first two sites in Bristol and Cardiff.

Two new Thai concepts, Wild Rice and Mamasan, will jointly open in a unit on Brewer Street in Soho next Saturday (1 December).

Neal’s Yard vegan restaurant concept Wild Food Café is to open a second site on Upper Street in Islington on 14 December. It comes seven years after the launch of the original site.

Fortnum & Mason has opened a 90-cover restaurant at the Royal Exchange in the City. The Fortnums Bar & Restaurant will run alongside a retail space, and is a fourth UK site for the operator.

The Bourne & Hollingsworth catering and event group launches the new Garden Room bar and restaurant on the rooftop of the Assembly Hotel on Charing Cross Road on Friday (23 November). It is an all-day operation with 100 covers.

Japanese teppanyaki restaurant group Benihana will open a restaurant in Glasgow next year—20 years after its last opening in London. Benihana operates in Piccadilly, Chelsea and St Paul’s, as well as in the US and other territories, and is now under new ownership.

The Rita’s Dining team launch a new deli and sandwich bar called Bodega Rita’s at Coal Drops Yard in Kings Cross on Friday (23 November).

Cardiff wood-fired pizza restaurant Dusty Knuckle is opening a new site at Sophia Gardens in the city next spring. The original Dusty Knuckle is at the Printhaus in Cardiff.

Mitchells & Butlers is to launch a branch of its Miller & Carter concept in Frankfurt in Germany, it announced this week.
