New openings round-up

Franco Manca, Denny's, Pint Shop, Coppa Club and Tapas Revolution are a few in this week's list of new openings.

Revere Pub Company, the upmarket pubs and bars division of Marston’s, is to open another new site for its Lost & Found cocktail bar brand in Sheffield. The Victorian hideaway-style concept is taking a 178-cover site over two floors. It is a sixth Lost & Found venue, after Birmingham, Bristol, Knutsford and two in Leeds. Revere managing director Colin Sadler said: “We are thrilled to be adding another site to the Lost & Found brand and building on our success as a destination venue… Sheffield is a metropolitan city full of culture and unique places to experience, and we are sure the Lost & Found will be a welcome addition to the dining and drinking scene.”

The Arc Inspirations group is to open a branch of its Banyan Bar & Kitchen brand in Newcastle—its first site in the north east. The sits has 10,000 square feet over two floors, and will be situated on Blackett Street near the Eldon Square shopping centre, in a unit previously occupied by Jamie’s Italian. It will launch next year. Arc now has 19 sites in all, including nine Banyan Bar and Kitchens. CEO Martin Wolstencroft said: “We’re confident in our strategy and keen to take our brands to new guests in new cities and feel Newcastle is the perfect location for our first site outside of Yorkshire and Manchester.

Craft beer pub and restaurant Pint Shop opened on Bennetts Hill in Birmingham on Wednesday (10 October). It is a third site for the brand, which also operates in Cambridge and Oxford.

Franco Manca has secured its first location in the Midlands, according to local media: at Bennetts Hill in Birmingham. It has taken on a unit previously occupied by a building society.

US restaurant brand Denny’s will soon open in Braehead in Glasgow as it continues a push into the UK.

PizzaExpress will open a new restaurant in Leeds’ Merrion Centre next March, local media report. It will have 120 covers and another 36 on a terrace.

Coppa Club will open its latest new restaurant in Maidenhead on 29 October. It will operate at the Picturehouse development in the town. Coppa Club currently has sites at St Paul’s, Tower Bridge, Sonning-on-Thames and Henley-on-Thames.

Tapas Revolution opens in Windsor on Tuesday (16 October)—its seventh location.

Thai restaurant brand Giggling Squid will open in Bishop’s Stortford in December, according to local media. It has taken on a unit previously occupied by Chimichanga.

London Lebanese restaurant Maison du Mezze is opening a third site: at the 151 Wardour Street development in Soho. It has taken a 4,800 square feet site alongside the Hummingbird Bakery and L’Eto Café. Maison du Mezze’s other two restaurants are in Leicester Square and Kingston.

Marston’s Pitcher & Piano brand opens on Holly Street in Sheffield next Friday (19 October). It has converted an old National Union of Mineworkers building there.

Stonegate opens a branch of its Popworld late-night brand in Bolton on Friday (12 October)—its 28th location for the format.

Japanese teppanyaki concept Benihana is opening on West Nile Street in Glasgow—a fourth UK location and a first outside of London. It has taken on a unit previously occupied by Carluccio’s.

Covent Garden vegan restaurant Wild Food Café is to open a second site on Upper Street in Islington. It will have a bigger size and broader menu than the original restaurant when it opens in early December.

FISK, the seafood restaurant operator based in Harrogate and Prestbury, is opening a second site in Harrogate, called FISK Signature. It will open on Montpelier Mews on 1 November. Chef patron Kanyana Williams said: “Having two restaurants in Harrogate will help us keep up with the demand for covers at busy times. Being more centrally located we will be able to further develop our lunch and early evening offerings and cater for town centre visitors in the evenings.”

Ceres, a Mediterranean restaurant concept that operated as a pop-up supper club in Hackney, has secured a permanent location on Green Lanes in Newington Green. It will open in November.

Amber Taverns has acquired a pub in Causeyside, Paisley—its first opening in Scotland.

JD Wetherpsoon has received approval for plans to open in Dorking. It will be converting adjacent retail units in the town.
