New openings round-up

Five Guys, Papa John's, Mojo Bar, Norigami and Stonegate Pub Company round out this week's new openings.

Burger concept Patty & Bun has signed for two more London restaurants—on Borough High Street and at the old BBC Television Centre in White City. The 1,500 square feet Borough site, opposite the Market, will open in May and will be the first Patty & Bun to have a breakfast menu. The 2,000 square feet White City unit will be the brand’s tenth location in London. The deals were secured by Shelley Sandzer, who recently brokered Patty & Bun’s first opening outside of London, in Brighton.

PizzaExpress is opening at the Welcome Break motorway service station at South Mimms off the M25. It is taking the place of Ed’s Easy Diner there. The opening will continue a partnership between PizzaExpress and Welcome Break, following the brand’s first motorway opening in Oxford.

Marston’s is to open its new-build pub the Longacre at the Skelton Park development on Teesside in early August.

The City Pub Group has acquired the Covent Garden pub on Bow Street. The deal was brokered by Davis Coffer Lyons, whose executive director of pubs Paul Tallentyre said: “This is a fantastic pub in a great location so it is no surprise that we received a lot of interest from a range of operators. City Pub is a fantastic operator and their knowledge of the area will ensure that this is another successful addition to their growing pub portfolio.

Five Guys has just opened an 80-cover restaurant in Jubilee Place in Canary Wharf. The site there was previously occupied by Wildwood.

Food hall operator Try Market Halls wants to open a venue in York. Its plans include space for several different restaurant and bar operators, and opening hours from 7 am to 1 am. Try Market Halls has been set up by a team including Pitt Cue Co’s Simon Anderson. Earlier this year it appointed Taylor Wessing to advise on its opening plans, which include food halls in the West End, Fulham and Victoria, with the first to open later this year.

US-style bar brand Coyote Ugly is planning a launch in Swansea. It should open on Wind Street in the town in the summer. Coyote Ugly opened its first site in Cardiff, and also has venues in Liverpool and Manchester. The brand has bars in seven countries worldwide.

JD Wetherspoon has secured permission for an opening in Dublin. The 1,600 square metre venue will be opposite the Abbey Theatre in the city. Wetherspoon has six other pubs in the Republic of Ireland as it continues to expand there. The company has meanwhile had a bid to open in the old Civic Hall in Conwy recommended by the local council.

Brazilian-style brand Preto has opened at the Meadows shopping centre in Chelmsford—its 11th site in the UK. The all-you-can-eat concept plans to open several more new sites this year.

Norigami, a new healthy eating concept fusing sushi and sandwiches, is launching a pop-up venture at Sourced Market at St Pancras station from 30 April to 11 May. It will also have an office catering operation. Norigami plans more pop-ups around London ahead of the launch of a first permanent retail outlet later in the year.

The Hotel du Vin group opens a hotel and bistro in Stratford-upon-Avon on Tuesday (1 May). Another restaurant and hotel are to follow in Clifton in Bristol shortly.

Yorkshire-based bar operator Mojo Bar has opened its fifth site in Harrogate. The 2,400 square feet bar joins branches of Mojo in Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester and Nottingham.

Stonegate Pub Company has reopened the former Molly’s bar in Colchester as a new venue called The Centurion. It follows a £250,000 overhaul and is aimed at students and young professionals in the town. Stonegate is meanwhile opening its 25th Popworld location on Friday (27 April) in Milton Keynes.

Papa John’s has opened in Elm Park in east London—a fourth site for the franchise in the area.
