New openings round-up

Wimpy, The Cat's Pyjamas, Pint Shop, Honest Burgers and Pieminister are a few of this week's new openings.

Healthy juice and food brand Crussh is to open in travel hubs in the UK and Europe including London’s Paddington station under a new partnership with SSP. The Paddington site is due to launch in May, with more locations to be announced. Crussh CEO Shane Kavanagh said: “We are hugely excited about working with SSP… Paddington is the perfect place to start, and we can’t wait to get going.” SSP UK CEO Simon Smith said: “We have been instrumental in introducing some great names to the travel environment, and we are thrilled to be adding Crussh to our portfolio.” Crussh has also partnered with brands including Debenhams on new openings lately.

The New World Trading Co opens a second branch of its new bar and restaurant brand The Florist at the Old Blind School site on Hardman Street in Liverpool on Monday (23 April). The venue is themed around fairy tales, with full-size trees in an entrance hall and floral-themed cocktails. Manager Joel Lee said: “The Florist needs to be seen to be believed how pretty and light the site has now become. We know it is going to become the place to be in Liverpool.” The Old Blind School was previously run by the New Moon Trading Company and then by its co-founder Dave Mooney but closed last June. The first Florist venue is in Bristol.

Honest Burgers is to open in Bristol in June, the city’s Post reports. It has taken a unit on Clare Street and will use producers and suppliers from the south-west. The launch continues an expansion of the brand beyond London, which has already seen it open in Cambridge and Reading. Honest Burgers currently has 26 restaurants in all.

Brewhouse & Kitchen opens in Milton Keynes on Monday (23 April)—its biggest site yet. The 6,300 square feet space will have 250 covers, plus an outside area and in-house brewery.

Pieminster will soon open a restaurant on Bold Street in Liverpool, the Liverpool Echo reports. It joins restaurants in Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds, London, Nottingham and Sheffield, plus cafes in several other towns and cities.

Brighton-based Choccywoccydoodah has opened a new flagship site in London, at Shorts Gardens in Seven Dials. It will have a café on the ground floor with another space for groups. The brand was brought to Seven Dials by Shaftesbury, whose head of retail Sam Bain-Mollison said: “Choccywoccydoodah provides a retail experience to include a larger café and build upon their previous success, creating a London flagship in the heart of the West End.”

Revolution Bars Group is to open a venue on the former site of a Pizza Hut in Salisbury. Its plans for a conversion have just been approved.

The Fulham Market Halls project has confirmed the line-up for its opening in May. It will include nine street food style operators: Calcutta Canteen, Hot Box, Ahi Poke, Butchies, Fanny’s Kebabs, Claude’s Deli, Yard Sale Pizza, Thima and Soft Serve Society. The development will be the second venture for Hot Box and Butchies, a fifth for Ahi Poke and a sixth for Yard Sale.

The team behind Kitty Fisher’s in Mayfair is opening a second restaurant called Cora Pearl on Henrietta Street in Covent Garden in mid-June. Named after a Covent Garden-born courtesan, it will have 60 covers over a two-floor site.

Pint Shop has had plans approved for an opening in Bennetts Hill in Birmingham, local media report. The brand launched in Cambridge and has a second site in Oxford.

Street food operator Raclette Brothers is launching a permanent venture at Pop Brixton, the collective of retailers, restaurants and enterprises. It will be an Alpine-themed restaurant and is due to open on 1 May.

Rotisserie chicken concept Cocotte opens a second restaurant in London on Monday (23 April)—on Hoxton Square. The first Cocotte is in Notting Hill.

Northern England based all-you-can-eat concept The Chinese Buffet has opened in Speke in Liverpool. It is an 11th site for the brand, which also operates in Bolton, Blackpool, Bury, Wakefield, Wigan, Wrexham, St Helens, Halifax, Huddersfield and Darlington. The company has targeted at least 20 restaurants around the north by 2020.

Indian street food and craft beer concept The Cat’s Pyjamas is adding to its two restaurants in Leeds with a new opening in York. A venue in Wakefield is reportedly also planned.

Wimpy has opened a new 100-seat restaurant in Shrewsbury. It marks a return to the town for the brand, which closed its location there around ten years ago.
