New openings round-up

Taco Bell, Santa Maria, Mr. Bao, Kricket and Chokhi Dhani are some of this week's new openings.

Loungers will open its latest Cosy Club bar and restaurant in Lincoln’s Cornhill centre in mid-February. Announcing a 4.8% increase in like for like sales over the Christmas trading period, Loungers said it would also soon open Lounges in Solihull and Ormskirk, followed by launches in Abingdon and Moseley.

BrewDog has acquired a major new unit on Shaftesbury Avenue previously run by Polpo as the Ape & Bird pub. It will reopen as BrewDog Seven Dials before the end of February. The 8,500 square feet site over three floors will have more than 20 craft beers on tap and will become BrewDog’s second largest venue in the world. BrewDog has also confirmed plans to set up a new BrewPub in London at Tower Hill in the spring. In a blog announcing the moves, BrewDog said: “We love the fact that London has supported us since we ventured forth into Camden back in 2011. The thirsty people of the city continue to hit up our bars—which is why we are hugely excited for the short wait until we add another to our line-up.”

Miller & Carter is to open in Gosforth on Tyneside later in the year, local media report.

Indian restaurant operator Kricket will open a second site at the Television Centre development in White City this summer. The 140-cover venue will have a cocktail bar, open kitchen and terrace as well as a restaurant. Kricket’s original restaurant is on Denman Street in Soho.

Nando’s plans to open a new restaurant on Ransomes Europark in Ipswich. It will take over a unit currently occupied by Pizza Hut, which will close there shortly.

Marston’s has applied for permission to build a hotel alongside its Thatchers Needle pub in Diss in Norfolk. The pub opened four years ago.

US-based Tex Mex operator Taco Bell will open on Bold Street in Liverpool shortly—the first of four branches planned for the city.

Italian pizza restaurant Santa Maria will open a third site on New Cavendish Street in Fitzrovia in early February. It will join restaurants in Ealing and Chelsea.

India-based hospitality group Chokhi Dhani is to open a restaurant on Riverside Walk in Battersea in the next few weeks. Chokhi Dhani London will have a street food-style offer on the ground floor and a more formal restaurant on the first floor.

Bar and restaurant brand The Alchemist has confirmed openings in 2018 in Nottingham, Bristol and Cardiff after securing a new £16m funding deal with Santander. It currently has 12 sites around the UK.

Taiwanese restaurant concept Mr Bao is to open a second site called Daddy Bao in Tooting in the next few weeks. The original restaurant is in Peckham.

Scottish burger group BRGR is to open in a yet to be confirmed location in Glasgow, according to the city’s Evening Times. BRGR has branches in Giffnock and Edinburgh.

The Jamie Oliver group and SSP have opened a new Jamie’s Deli at Schiphol airport in the Netherlands.
