New Openings Round-Up 18 June

The latest news on venues opening across the U.K.

Arc Inspirations’ bar brand Manahatta will open its seventh venue on Temple Street in the Colmore district of Birmingham later this year. The 6,700 square feet, two-floor venue will be the first Manahatta outside the north of England. 

 

Whitbread’s Bar + Block steakhouse restaurant brand opened two new restaurants last week: on Howard Street in Glasgow and Avebury Boulevard in Milton Keynes. They bring the brand’s estate to 18 sites.  

 

The Riverside Inn in Cound near Shrewsbury is reopening soon as part of Greene King’s Chef & Brewer group.  

 

US-based fast casual brand Slim Chickens is continuing a rapid UK rollout with an opening on Long Row in Nottingham. It has taken on a unit that was previously occupied by MOD Pizza.  

 

Los Angeles-based fast casual brand Eggslut is opening a third UK site on Leonard Street in Shoreditch. It will join sites in Fitzrovia and Notting Hill, with more locations planned in London and other big cities in the UK.  

 

Amsterdam-based restaurant group The Seafood Bar is opening its first London venue in August. It has taken on a unit on Dean Street previously occupied by Red Fort. The Seafood Bar has three restaurants in Amsterdam and one in Utrecht. 

 

The Livelyhood south London pub group is opening a new pub called The Artful Duke in Bromley in August. The 3,000 square feet pub will be the group’s seventh, with another to follow in the autumn. 

 

The Dinerama street food collective in Shoreditch is to be succeeded in July by a concept called LALALAND. It will also have a market hall style line-up of street food vendors and bars, with more details to follow.  

 

The Wendy’s brand is opening a restaurant in Peterborough as it continues a return to the UK, according to local media.  

 

Street food operator Brother Thai is creating its first bricks and mortar restaurant on Whitchurch Road in the city. The Thai roti bar will open next week. 

 

Liverpool bar and restaurant & Company this week opened a second venue on East Parade in Leeds.  

 

Gino D’Acampo’s restaurant group has confirmed a second restaurant in Liverpool. It is setting up the venue called Gino D’Acampo Old Hall Street Restaurant at the INNSiDE Liverpool hotel, as part of an ongoing partnership with the Melia Hotels International group. It will have a 200-cover restaurant with private dining rooms and bar, and is due to open in mid-August. 

 

Mexican brand Chipotle is recruiting for a new opening at Canary Wharf in London. 

 

JD Wetherspoon has started work on a new pub in Waterford in Ireland. Opening is scheduled for mid-December. 

 

The Joe & the Juice on-the-go chain is opening on Lower James Street in Soho, in a unit that was run by Caffe Nero. 

 

The Tim Hortons coffee and café brand is to open a drive-through branch in Barrow’s Hollywood retail park as it continues a rapid UK roll-out. It has applied for permission to open in an old Pizza Hut unit there. 

 

A Latin American restaurant and bar called Sucre is opening on Great Marlborough Street in Soho in July. It has been developed by Argentinian chef Fernando Trocca and mixologist Tato Giovanonni, and will incorporate a cocktail bar called Abajo. 

 

Glasgow-based Italian group La Vita has submitted plans to open a restaurant in the city’s Bailliestoun area by the end of the year. La Vita has six other venues in Glasgow, including three La Vita pizzerias.
