New Openings Round-Up 17 June

The latest news on venues opening across the UK.

Franco Manca has submitted plans to open a second restaurant in Oxford—on Banbury Road in the Summertown area of the city. The brand already has a site on George Street in Oxford.

 

US chicken restaurant brand Popeyes has confirmed six more new openings: on Broad Street in Reading, the Metrocentre in Gateshead, Queen Street in Oxford, Upper Parliament Street in Nottingham, the Broadway in Ealing and North Street in Brighton. It follows Popeyes’ launch into the UK in Stratford, followed by kitchens in Bermondsey, Maida Vale and Whitechapel, and a sit-down restaurant in Chelmsford.

 

The Restaurant Group’s Brunning & Price brand is opening in Harrogate after acquiring the Nelson pub in the town. It plans to reopen the venue after refurbishment in October. Brunning & Price has also acquired the Mytton and Mermaid pub near Shrewsbury, local media report. Its next new opening is the Architect in Bath next week.

 

Nando’s has just opened a new restaurant at the Riverside retail park in Coleraine—its eighth location in Northern Ireland.

 

All-you-can-eat buffet brand Cosmo will launch at St Peter’s Quarter in Bournemouth in late June. The site will have around 340 covers. Cosmo currently operates 21 restaurants in Britain and Ireland, and has more openings lined up for this year in locations including Cardiff, Liverpool, Newcastle, Northampton and Preston.

 

Rudy’s, the Neapolitan pizza brand run by Mission Mars, is opening in Chapel Allerton in Leeds in July. Rudy’s currently has 11 restaurants, including another in central Leeds.

 

Shoryu Ramen will open its first restaurant under franchise in August—on Kensington High Street in London in association with Bowl Life, which plans to launch several more sites for the brand over the next few years. Shoryu Ramen has ten managed restaurants in London, Oxford and Manchester.

 

Mrs Chew’s Chinese Kitchen, the brand created by Ellen Chew with restaurants in Westfield Shepherds Bush and Birmingham, is to open a third site shortly, at the Westfield Stratford centre.

 

The Arkell’s brewery has just opened a pub called the Strawberry Thief at the Tadpole Garden Village development in Swindon. It is its first new-build opening for nearly 20 years.

 

Filipino fast food brand Jollibee is opening a new restaurant at the Meadowhall shopping centre in Sheffield in the next few months, as it continues a rapid rollout around the UK.

 

JD Wetherspoon has just opened a new pub in Bourne in Lincolnshire called the Raymond Mays.

 

Five Guys has received planning permission for a new opening in Preston. It is taking over a unit at the Deepdale retail park that was previously occupied by Frankie & Benny’s.

 

Black Sheep Coffee is opening at the Lion Walk shopping centre in Colchester this summer, as it continues a regional rollout. The 1,900 square feet site will have a coffee menu by day and add cocktail, wine and craft beer bar elements at night. It will have 86 covers. Black Sheep now has 50 locations across the UK, and is preparing openings in more cities and towns.

 

The Wimpy brand has applied to open a restaurant in Tonbridge in Kent, local media report. Wimpy currently has nearly 70 sites in the UK.
