New openings round-up

Dishoom, Loungers, Pizza Pilgrims, Miller & Carter and Rosa's Thai Cafe round out this week's list of new openings.

Dishoom has set 1 April for the opening of its new restaurant at One Chamberlain Square in Birmingham. A soft launch in the 7,600 square feet restaurant will start on 21 March. Dishoom currently has seven locations—five in London and one in Manchester and Edinburgh.

Tomahawk Steakhouse is to open its largest restaurant yet in York, having taken on the former Jamie’s Italian unit. It will have cocktail and seafood bars as well as a restaurant, and will open in April. Tomahawk has six sites in Darlington, Husthwaite, Newcastle, Ponteland, Potto and Yarm. It opens in Beverley in a couple of weeks, and has sites in the pipeline in Harrogate and Wilmslow.

Loungers has set 24 March for the opening of its Cosy Club bar and restaurant at Brindleyplace in Birmingham. The 6,000 square feet site is a second Cosy Club in the city, after Bennetts Hill.

Pizza Pilgrims will open a new restaurant on Parkway in Camden in mid-March. As well as a pizzeria the site will be home to a new ‘Pizza Academy’ concept where people can learn pizza-making skills and be encouraged to get hospitality-related qualifications.

Plans have been submitted for the opening of a Miller & Carter restaurant at Chilworth in Hampshire. It proposes to replace a clubhouse at a golf club with a restaurant open to the public as well as members.

Rosa’s Thai Café opened its first Manchester restaurant last weekend. Its new 60-cover unit on Deansgate was previously occupied by Handmade Burger Company. It is Rosa’s 19th restaurant in all, and its third outside London after Leeds and Liverpool.

The Alchemist has set 24 March for the opening of its new cocktail bar and restaurant at the Embassy Gardens development in Nine Elms. The 5,200 square feet will have a 94-cover restaurant, 66-cover bar and 24-cover terrace.

TRG Concessions has opened 1751 Distillery Bar & Kitchen by the Hilton hotel on More London Place in London Bridge, in a unit previously occupied by Jamie’s Italian. The concept has an onsite gin distillery and an all day restaurant and bar. The 5,800 square feet space has 191 covers and a bar and private dining area.

Italian street food style brand Wolf has applied for permission to open a restaurant on Bothwell Street in Glasgow. It would be a first Scottish location for Wolf, after six openings in England: two in Manchester, two in Reading and one in Chiswick and Nottingham.

Tex Mex brand Tortilla has submitted a licence application to open a restaurant on Broad Street in Reading, local media report.

Five Guys has just opened at Saw Close in Bath.

Fast casual pizzeria concept PizzaLuxe is to open a third restaurant at the Arndale shopping centre in Manchester in the summer. It has signed for a 2,000 square feet unit, which will join other branches of PizzaLuxe at Manchester Airport and Trinity Kitchen in Leeds. The concept started out as a street food operation in London.

Nando’s is to open a restaurant at Robin Retail Park in Wigan later in the year, local media report. It will take on one of two new units being constructed at the park.

Craft brewery Heist Brew Co is opening a bar and restaurant on Neepsend Lane in Sheffield, following a relocation from Clowne in Derbyshire. It will have burgers and street food vendors as well as two bars with 30 craft beer lines.

The Adventure Bar group is opening a branch of its cocktail bar concept Tonight Josephine near the Bullring in Birmingham. It will be a third site for the brand, after Shoreditch and Waterloo, and a first opening for Adventure Bar outside London.

Camberwell restaurant Good Neighbour this week opened a second site in Tooting Broadway.

JD Wetherspoon has acquired a unit in Hamilton in Scotland. It has taken on an old department store and plans to spend £2.5m on a refurbishment.

Japanese on-the-go and delivery brand Buy & Bite has acquired a third London site—on Tottenham Street in Fitzrovia. It will open in the spring. Buy & Bite also operates in Shoreditch and Farringdon.
