New openings round-up

Blacklock, BrewDog, Franco Manca, Nando's and Vagabond round out this week's list of new openings.

Wine bar, restaurant and retailer Vagabond has just opened a seventh location in Canary Wharf. Vagabond also operates in Paddington, Battersea, Fulham, Victoria, Clapham and Charlotte Street, with another new opening at Monument planned for mid-January.

Nando’s has been confirmed for a unit at the Glass Works development in Barnsley. The scheme is part of a major regeneration of the town centre and will have a cinema, bowling alley and retail units as well as other restaurants to be confirmed. Muffin Break and Huddersfield-based Coffee Boy will also take space at the Glass Works.

Franco Manca has just opened a new restaurant on Middlesex Street off Bishopsgate in London.

The Australia-inspired Daisy Green group has just opened a new all-day venue on London Wall Place at the Barbican called Barbie Green. Daisy Green also has operations in Regent Street, Soho, Paddington, Victoria, Little Venice, Portman Village, Broadgate and Regent’s Place and at the Royal Festival Hall.

London steak and chophouse operator Blacklock is to open a new restaurant on Henrietta Street in Covent Garden next year. It will be a fourth location for the brand, alongside Great Windmill Street in Soho, Rivington Street in Shoreditch and Philpot Lane in the City.

BrewDog has added a taproom to its Hop Hub distribution headquarters near Motherwell in Scotland. It will serve beer direct from its 130,000 square feet warehouse.

Australia-based coffee and café brand Jamaica Blue has opened a seventh UK site, a 120-cover venue at the Beacon shopping centre in Eastbourne. Jamaica Blue also has sites in Cambridge, Chelmsford, Reading, Rushden, Telford and Wednesbury.

The Coffee#1 brand has reached the milestone of 100 locations with a new opening in Banbury. Coffee#1 started out in Wales and the south west, and has been majority-owned by Caffe Nero since early this year. It has opened ten new sites in 2019, and plans at least 12 more in 2020. The Banbury unit has 100 covers.

Wagamama founder Alan Yau is launching a new Italian-Asian concept called Mazzasando on Draycott Avenue in South Kensington. It is due to launch in mid-January. The concept is a joint development with mozzarella bar group Obica, which used to operate the site on Draycott Avenue. Mazzasando will have a 30-cover space as well as take-out. It will combine Italian-style sandwiches with sando, an Asian snack.

The founders of the Goodman and Burger & Lobster brands have opened a new neighbourhood-style Mediterranean restaurant concept called Wild Tavern on Elystan Street in Chelsea. It offers food inspired by Italy, cooked on a charcoal grill.

Papa John’s has opened under franchise in Lancaster. It is a seventh site for the local franchisee.
