Dishoom has confirmed plans for a new opening in Birmingham next spring. It has taken a site at Chamberlain Square, part of the new Paradise development in the city. It will join five Dishoom sites in London and one in Manchester and Edinburgh.
Five Guys will reach the milestone of 100 UK restaurants when it opens in St Paul’s on Monday (9 December). The 100th opening comes less than seven years after launching into the UK. John Eckbert, CEO of Five Guys Europe, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the support Five Guys has received from the British public over the last six years.” The St Paul’s restaurant will have a breakfast menu.

North Fish’s parent group has around 50 quick service and casual dining restaurants, and wants to roll out more restaurants in the UK, initially in shopping centres.
The team behind Bella Vita in Hackney’s Broadway Market have opened a new Italian restaurant called Figo at International Quarter London, the £2.4bn joint venture between Lendlease and LCR. The 3,000 square feet unit has 100 covers. Founder Tony Manconi said: “Our expansion plans were carefully considered, and we believe IQL offers us the best of both worlds—close proximity to Bella Vita retaining our loyal customer base, and the ideal location to grow as part of this huge east London community.”
The team behind Cottonopolis have just opened The Edinburgh Castle, a pub in the Ancoats area of Manchester. The pub first opened in 1811 but had been derelict for many years before it was revived.

Australian farm-to-table restaurant and bar concept Butcher and the Farmer has opened a first international site at the O2’s ICON Outlet in London. It is a 7,000 square feet unit with 266 covers over two levels. Butcher and the Farmer has three sites in Sydney. Marion Dillon, leasing director for the O2 and ICON Outlet, said: “Our customers are increasingly seeking diverse food and beverage offerings from locations further afield, and we are proud to be spearheading this trend by securing Butcher and the Farmer’s international debut.”
A new food hall has opened at the Riverwalk development in Durham. The Food Pit has 3,500 square feet of space and houses local independent street food operators including the Durham Sausage Company, Manao Thai, Mr Waffle and Spread from the Med.
French burger group Big Fernand is to open a restaurant on Thurloe Place in South Kensington in the next few weeks. It comes five years after a short-lived first opening in London near Tottenham Court Road. Big Fernand has around 50 restaurants in France and the UAE.
