New openings round-up

The Botanist, Leon, Mamago, Salvi's and Wingstop are a few in this week's new openings.

Wagamama opened the first branch of its new all-day grab-and-go concept Mamago on Fenchurch Street on Tuesday (26 November). It is open from 7am to 6pm. Wagamama plans to roadtest the new concept before setting any further openings.

Fulham Shore brand The Real Greek is to open a new flagship restaurant at Tower Bridge in London next Saturday (7 December). The 120-cover site is the brand’s 17th location in all.

The New World Trading Company’s The Botanist brand opens its latest new bar and restaurant at Time Square in Warrington on Monday (2 December). It is a 10,000 square feet venue with 295 covers. The Botanist is the first operator to launch at the Time Square scheme. It becomes the 19th venue for the brand.

Spanish supplier and restaurant operator Brindisa is to launch a new kitchen and bar concept at the new Borough Market Kitchen next year. As well as its supply and retail operation, Brindisa runs tapas restaurants in Battersea, London Bridge, Shoreditch, Soho and South Kensington.

The Old Rope Walks pub group has opened its fifth location—The Butterfly and The Grasshopper on Renshaw Street in Liverpool. It follows a £750,000 refurb in partnership with Star Pubs & Bars—a third collaboration between the two. It has given the venue a new first floor kitchen, gin and cocktail bar and rooftop restaurant.

Leon will open its latest new store at Leeds station on Tuesday (3 December). It will be the brand’s first site in Yorkshire, and the first to offer a digital ordering system.

Australian-style all-day restaurant group Daisy Green will open a second location on London Wall Place in the Barbican in the next few weeks. It is a 40-cover site. Daisy Green currently has 11 sites of varying size around London, including another in the City.

Manchester Italian restaurant group Salvi’s has just opened a new site on High Street in the Northern Quarter. It is a 50-cover restaurant with a small bar. Salvi’s also has a restaurant and pizzeria on John Dalton Street, and a mozzarella bar, restaurant and deli in Manchester’s Corn Exchange.

Bakery and baking school operator Bread Ahead has just opened a major new 180-cover site in Wembley. It incorporates a bakery, all-day restaurant with pizza oven and rotisserie and two cooking classrooms, and will also host Bread Ahead’s wholesale operations.

Pub operator and brewer the Laine Pub Company opened a new bar in Digbeth with craft beer, pizza, live music and vinyl record players on Thursday (28 November). Dead Wax Digbeth as two music spaces with capacity for 120 people each.

Street food concept Black Bear Burger opened a permanent restaurant this week on Market Row in Brixton. It has previously operated at venues including Broadway Market and Boxpark Shoreditch.

US brand Slim Chickens opens at Cabot Circus in Bristol on Friday (29 November), as it continues a franchised rollout in the UK. It will be the sixth Slim Chickens site in the UK, joining three restaurants in London and one in Cardiff and Birmingham. Franchise partner the Boparan Restaurant Group says it will open between five and eight more locations in 2020.

US fried chicken brand Wingstop has confirmed an opening at the Winter Garden in the Bluewater shopping centre early next year—its third UK restaurant. It will have an Xbox gaming area where guests can play around 100 games. Wingstop launched into the UK with sites on Shaftesbury Avenue and Dalston.

Boom Bap Burger will launch its first permanent restaurant in Paradise Row in Bethnal Green in the next few weeks. The concept launched at Tooting Market four years ago.

Five Guys is to open by Baker Street station in London, in a unit previously occupied by YO! Sushi.

Southern US-style Hickory’s Smokehouse launches its latest new restaurant in Shrewsbury on Monday (2 December). It joins brands including Brunning & Price in the Victoria Quay area, and is a 12th location for Hickory’s.

Ossett Brewing Company has just opened a new taproom and visitors centre at its headquarters in Yorkshire.
