Reopenings round-up

Pizza Express, Nando's, Megan's, Carluccio's and Cote round out this week's list of reopenings.

Pizza Express has reopened 63 restaurants on Thursday August 13, taking the total to have reopened to more than 300. The move follows the successful phased reopening of dine-in, delivery and click-and-collect services at selected pizzerias.

London-based cafe and deli concept Megan’s will open its first site outside London, in the former Jamie’s Italian in St Albans, Hertfordshire.

Lyle’s and Flor founders who are behind Michelin-starred restaurant, have reopened Lyle’s, the modern British restaurant based in Shoreditch.

Glenagles owner Ennismore has opened Tandoor Chop House inspired by the communal eateries of Northern India and the classic British chop house. The venue features a new Tandoor Tacos menu in Notting Hill.

London-based chicken sandwich concept Butchies launched a site after securing the former VQ takeaway site at 122 Clapham High Street.

Chef patron Steve Drake has reopened his Michelin-starred restaurant Sorrel in Dorking, Surrey.

A pop-up outdoor dining space The Community Kitchen has opened at the Great Northern Warehouse in Manchester. The venue can hold 50 diners, provides a covid-secure space for restaurant tenants.

Boparan Restaurant Group continues the gradual reopening its Carluccio’s estate this week. The company welcomed customers back to its Chester, Leamington Spa and Wimbledon restaurants.

Matt Wells, co-owner of London restaurants including The Dairy and Dandy, has launched a “Detroit-style” pizza restaurant in in Coldharbour Lane.

Hollywood Bowl Group, the UK’s largest ten-pin bowling operator, is to open a third venue for its mini-golf concept Puttstars. The company will launch the venue in York on Monday August 17.

Umbrella Project has reopened The Sun Tavern and Discount Suit Company in London’s East End. Both venues are operating with a limited capacity and follow strict and frequent cleaning schedules.

Nando’s has now reopened almost half its 422 UK estate for dine-in after reopening 90 sites at the weekend. The group’s total number of sites is now about 200.

French brasserie chain Cote reopened two sites, in Gloucester and Shrewsbury, followed by six on Monday August 17 and further sites on Wednesday August 19 in Farnham, Godalming, Leamington Spa and Teddington will reopen.

Pizza Pilgrims, the London-based sourdough pizzeria announced its plans to open a permanent facility for its Pizza In The Post operation.

Kebab specialist E Mono is set to open its third London site. The company has now taken on a former Greggs site on the corner of Holloway Road and Drayton Park.

SpiceBox, the London-based vegan curry house concept has reopened for dine-in. The restaurant in Walthamstow will offer two evening sittings, from Tuesday to Sunday, and is only accepting reservations in advance.

The healthy Asian food chain Itsu began reopening some of its sites in railway stations. The company, which is currently undergoing a company voluntary arrangement, has reopened five of its stores.

Mimi’s Bakehouse in Edinburgh is set to open its fifth site in the city. The company is scheduled to take over the on-site cafe in the grounds of Lauriston Castle.

British seasonal food brand Crockers has opened a second site in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire.

Yorkshire-based Sesh Events UK has launched £1.2m music, arts and entertainment venue Social at Hull Marina. The venue initially is operating as an arts cafe bar, with the aim to introduce a programme of entertainment and events.

Scott Collins-led concept MeatLiquor is to reopen its Oxford Circus site on Saturday August 15.

Blumenthal’s three Michelin-starred restaurant The Fat Duck in Bray will reopen on Saturday August 15 following a five-month closure.
