New Openings Roundup 17th January

The latest news on venues opening across the UK.

US brand Carl’s Jr has announced its first restaurant opening in the UK will be at the St David’s shopping centre in Cardiff in April. The California-based burger brand, which is being launched here under license by the Boparan Restaurant Group, plans more sites later in 2025. 

 

Wagamama has submitted an application to open a restaurant at the Cotswolds Designer Outlet in Tewkesbury, local media report. The Outlet is due to launch in early Summer. Other restaurant brands lined up for the development include Five Guys. 

 

Steakhouse and cocktail bar brand The Cut & Craft is opening a third restaurant in Manchester in the Spring. The site, on the corner of Mosley Street and York Street, joins other branches in York and Leeds. 

 

The True North Brew Co is launching a pub in Sheffield after acquiring a Grade II listed old cinema building. It is scheduled to open in May and will become the group’s 12th pub. 

 

Loungers plans to open a Lounge in Congleton in Cheshire, according to local media. It has submitted a proposal to launch in an old retail unit in the town. Loungers has just launched the Blanco Lounge in Bolton—its first new site of the year. 

 

JD Wetherspoon has confirmed pub openings at several more Haven holiday parks. They are at Devon Cliffs in Exmouth, Kent Coast in Allhallows, Cleethorpes Beach in Lincolnshire and Haggerston Castle in Northumberland. JD Wetherspoon opened its first Haven site in Filey in Yorkshire last Spring.  

 

Indian street food style brand Mowgli is launching at Chantry Place in Norwich, local media report. Wingstop has also just secured a site there. 

 

The Salad Project opened on Duke Street off Bond Street this week. It is the brand’s seventh location in London. 

 

Australia-based Mexican brand Zambrero has just opened on Cross Street in Manchester—its second site in the city and 13th in the UK. 

 

Afrikana is to open soon on King Street in Nottingham, local media report. The brand currently has 16 sites with around 10 more planned for 2025. 

 

US brand Popeyes is opening a restaurant at the Wellington Circle Retail Park in Aberdeen—a second site in the city after Union Street. It will have a drive-through as well as eat-in and delivery facilities. 

 

Pret has opened under franchise on Market Place in Henley-upon-Thames.

 

Tony Page @ Island Grill has just moved from Bayswater Road to a bigger site in Marylebone. 

 

Boss Pizza is about to open under franchise in Walsall. It will be a fourth site for the brand, with several more locations in the pipeline. 

 

Bubble tea brand Hong Cha is opening in Belfast shortly—its first site in Northern Ireland after 14 sites in Britain.
