Home and furniture retailer Ikea has just opened its first standalone restaurant near its branch in Hammersmith in west London. It is a conversion of a unit previously occupied by Wasabi and will sell Ikea’s popular meatballs and coffee via touchscreen menus. Ikea plans to open more standalone restaurants in the coming few months. 

 

The Lane7 group is planning an opening in an old retail unit on King Street in Reading, local media report.

 

The Individual Restaurants group has just opened its latest Piccolino branch, in the Sussex town of Chichester. The 6,000 square feet restaurant is the 22nd Piccolino in the UK. 

 

Sandwich Sandwich will open what it claims will be the UK’s biggest sandwich shop near Fenchurch Street in London before the end of the year. The 3,500 square feet site is a second London location after Gresham Street near St Paul’s. It also has two units in Bristol. 

 

London’s Cantonese concept Bun House is opening a new site in Shoreditch next week. It will be called Bun House Disco and is modelled on a 1980s Hong Kong disco. 

 

Nando’s opened a 120-cover restaurant at the Lesley Forestside shopping centre in Belfast this week. 

 

Mitchells & Butlers is about to open a branch of its Browns Brasserie & Bar brand in Sutton Coldfield. It replaces a Toby Carvery on the site. 

 

Healthy on-the-go brand Atis is opening in Moorgate shortly. It is its third new opening of the year and ninth location in London in total. 

 

A new whiskey-focused lounge bar and restaurant called Odyssey has opened at Hoxton Square in London. The 3,000 square feet two-floor unit has 190 covers and will sell more than 600 bourbons—the largest range outside the US—plus cocktails and sharing plates. The deal was secured by Shelley Sandzer. 

 

The SushiDog group will open its ninth site on Coleman Street, close to Bank in the City, on 19 November. It has taken on a unit that was previously run by Hop.  

 

The Mayfair Chippy opened a second site on Brompton Road in Knightsbridge this week. 

 

Shoreditch Irish pub Nancy Spains will open a second site on Fenchurch Street in the City on 18 November.  

 

The Superbowl brand has signed for an opening at the Mandor centre in Wolverhampton—its 15th location in the UK. 

 

Indian restaurant brand Tanatan, which has four sites in India and one in Dubai, has applied for permission to launch its first UK location—on London Road in Reading. 

 

Pizza concept Berbere will launch a third London restaurant in early December, on St Giles Square off Tottenham Court Road. The first two branches are in Clapham and Kentish Town. 

 

Kent-based burger group Chuck & Blade has opened a new restaurant on King Street in Maidenhead. It is the brand’s seventh and biggest site, and is in a unit previously occupied by Pizza Hut. 

 

The Salad Project opened its seventh and largest site this week—on Tottenham Court Road.
