New Openings Roundup 20th September

The latest news on venues opening across the UK.

US-based brand Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer is launching into the UK with a site at Westfield Stratford City. It will open a second site in London’s Soho early next years. Black Tap currently has seven sites in the US, plus more in the Middle East and Switzerland.    

 

Vietnamese brand Pho is opening on the high street in Harborne near Birmingham, local media report. Pho opened its latest new restaurant on Greenwich Church Street in London this week. 

  

JD Wetherspoon is planning an opening on Tooley Street near London Bridge station, called the Sun Wharf.  

 

Smash burger brand Burger Boi has just opened under franchise on Wortley Manor Road in Leeds—its 17th location. 

 

Boojum, the Ireland-based Mexican brand now run by the Azzurri group, opened its second UK mainland site on Lower Parliament Street in Nottingham this week. Boojum also operates in Leeds and has 16 sites in Ireland and Northern Ireland. 

 

Dutch burger group Fat Phill’s will open its first UK restaurant shortly, on St John’s Hill near London’s Clapham Junction. Fat Phill’s currently has 16 sites around the Netherlands. 

 

US brand Slim Chickens opened at the O2 centre in London this week—its 54th location in the UK. 

 

Greene King is about to open a new concept called HighTales in a pub it previously ran as a Hungry Horse. It is an experience-led concept with games and events including live music and comedy. 

 

Five Guys opened its latest new restaurant on West End Lane in West Hampstead this week. 

 

Rosa’s Thai has set 21 October for the opening of its latest new restaurant on the high street in Kingston, in a unit previously occupied by Wildwood. 

 

Mother Mercy, a cocktail bar group with four sites in the north east, is opening a fifth within the Fenwick department store in Newcastle. It follows a pop-up operation in the store. 

 

Devon’s Otter Brewery has applied for permission to open its first bar on Cathedral Close in Exeter, in a unit previously occupied by ASK Italian. It will also have a retail element. 

 

JW Lees is opening in Garstang in Lancashire after acquiring The Bellflower pub restaurant from Marston’s.

 

The Urban Pubs & Bars group has just opened the Peacock pub on Islington High Street, on a site previously occupied by JD Wetherspoon. 

 

DGB Hospitality, a group with eight bars and restaurants in and around Liverpool, is opening a retro style disco called Gloria’s on Back Berry Street next week. 

 

Popeyes opened last weekend at the retail park in Newport.  

 

US brand Wingstop is preparing to open a new restaurant at Chantry Place in Norwich, local media report.  

 

Basque dessert brand La Maritxu has signed for its second London location on Soho’s Kingly Street.
