New openings round-up

Manahatta, The Alchemist, Nando's, Tortilla and The Ivy Collection are included in the week's new openings.

Arc Inspirations has opened a new Manahatta in York. It is a sixth opening for the New York inspired cocktail bar concept. Arc chief executive Martin Wolstencroft said: “This has been a tremendously successful year for the company, and we are delighted to bring Manahatta to York ahead of the busy festive trading period.”

The Alchemist will open its biggest bar and restaurant yet at Canary Wharf next Friday (29 November). The 6,200 square feet venue will have a 100-cover restaurant, three bar areas and two terraces, plus an on-the-go menu. The opening will be The Alchemist’s 18th site in all.

Fuller’s is opening a new pub and restaurant in Wembley Park Boulevard in the spring. The two-floor, 8,200 square feet venue will be part of a major redevelopment of the area around Wembley Stadium by Quintain. Fuller’s property director Peter Turner said: “We are under-represented in this part of London, and the location will give us a presence in the heart of this great new development.”

Nando’s is to open a 4,100 square feet new restaurant at the Walkden retail park in Greater Manchester, local media report. It should be open there in the spring.

Spanish cooking class and food and wine experiences operator Mimo has just opened a new San Sebastian inspired pintxo bar called Batera at the Borough Market Kitchen.

Marston’s has applied for permission to open a new pub and restaurant in Weymouth. It wants to convert a space that has previously been used as a nightclub.

Tortilla is to open at Euston station in London in the next few weeks. It is the brand’s first site in a travel hub, and is in partnership with SSP.

The Ivy Collection has opened its latest new brasserie at St David’s in Cardiff—its first site in Wales. The restaurant has room for 284 covers over 5,400 square feet of space on two floors, plus outdoor seating and private dining areas.

American barbecue concept Prairie Fire, which has run as a street food and pop-up operation in London over the last few years, is to open its first permanent restaurant at the new Wood Lane arches development in early December. It will comprise a 75-cover eating area, a taproom with London craft beers, and a small outdoor terrace.

Asian on-and-go brand Itsu and upmarket dessert specialist Heavenly Desserts have both signed leases for restaurants at Stratford’s £2.4bn International Quarter London. Itsu has taken a 2,640 square feet unit, while Heavenly Desserts’ 1,500 square feet space marks its first opening in London. IQL, a joint venture between Lendlease and LCR, has signed several other food and drink operators lately.

Filipino fast-food brand Jollibee is continuing a move into the UK with an opening at Humberstone Gate in Leicester, according to local media. Jollibee first launched into the UK at Earls Court in London, and also has plans to open in Liverpool.

All-day café, restaurant and bar concept Boston Tea Party has opened its latest new site in Taunton in Somerset. It now has 23 locations across the south-west and Midlands.

Korean barbecue brand Yori will open a third site on Catherine Street in Covent Garden in mid-December. The 1,860 square feet restaurant joins two other Yoris in Wimbledon and Piccadilly.

Singaporean snack and street food group Old Chang Kee has secured a second UK site on Goodge Street in Fitzrovia. The 1,200 square feet unit will open in December. Old Chang Kee has around 100 sites in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Australia, and opened its first London operation in Covent Garden last year. The deal for the Goodge Street opening was secured by Shelley Sandzer.

Sourdough pizza restaurant Three Joes has opened a third location, at the Meadowhall shopping centre in Sheffield. It also has restaurants in Fareham and Winchester.

Taco Bell is opening under franchise in Harrow. It now has more than 40 locations in the UK.

Competitive socialising concept Puttshack has secured its first US site—at the mixed-use Interlock development in Atlanta. It will have four mini-golf courses and a major food and drink operation over 25,000 square feet of space. The Interlock should launch towards the end of 2020. Puttshack has three UK venues, in Bank, Lakeside and White City.
