New openings round-up

Bistrot Pierre, Copper Chimney, Hotel Chocolat, Mowgli and Slapfish are a few of this week's new openings.

New World Trading Company’s The Botanist brand and Indian street food-style operator Mowgli are both opening at the St George’s shopping centre in Preston. They will form part of a new 28,000 square feet restaurant quarter at the development, alongside several other units with tenants to be announced. The Botanist will have a 10,000 square feet site to anchor the centre, while Mowgli is taking a 3,400 square feet unit. The quarter is due to open in autumn 2020.

Mowgli will open on Corn Street in Bristol in December, local media report. It has taken on a unit previously occupied by PizzaExpress.

Bistrot Pierre has set 15 November for the opening of its next new restaurant, on King Edward’s Parade In Eastbourne. It will take the brand to the milestone of 25 restaurants in the UK.

Gino d’Acampo’s restaurant group will open a 165-cover restaurant, bar and deli in Temple Row in Birmingham before the end of the month, under the My Restaurant brand. D’Acampo also has restaurants in Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Harrogate and Hull.

All-day café and restaurant concept Megan’s has signed to open at the Islington Square development in London—a seventh location for the brand. The previous six Megan’s are in Battersea, Chelsea, Clapham, Fulham, Parsons Green and Wimbledon.

London nightclub brand Chinawhite is to open a third venue in Newcastle, according to reports. It will follow the template of a recent opening in Manchester, and plans to launch towards the end of next year.

India-based restaurant group Copper Chimney opened its first UK restaurant this week, at Westfield London in White City. It has plans to open more UK sites in due course.

US seafood restaurant group Slapfish has just launched into the UK with an opening on Kentish Town Road in London. Slapfish now has around 20 restaurants across 11 US states.

Derby Brewing Co is to open a sixth site in Mickleover. It will be a small 50-cover bar called the Hole in the Wall in an old bank building.

The Oxford-based Partridge Pub Company has opened a third pub, local media report—the Red Lion in Overton in Hampshire.

Portuguese piri piri chicken restaurant Casa do Frango is opening a second site by Shoreditch High Street in December. It will join the original restaurant in London Bridge.

New Zealand based coffee company Ozone has opened a second London coffee shop and restaurant in Bethnal Green. Ozone first launched into the UK in Shoreditch.

Hawaiian style operator Honi Poké is to open on Upper Street in Islington—a fifth site for the brand. It will take on a small unit adjacent to Chick n Sours in a deal brokered by Davis Coffer Lyons. Honi Poke’s other restaurants are in Soho, Fenchurch, Hammersmith and Marylebone.

Hotel Chocolat is opening a café and shop at the Angel Central development in Islington. The 1,300 square feet unit is in an old bank building and will launch in November.

Barrio Comida, a Mexican taco concept that has operated as a pop-up on the Quayside in Newcastle, has secured a first permanent location in Durham.
