Street food group Kerb launches its first permanent site, Seven Dials Market, on Saturday (7 September). The 24,000 square feet venue will house 25 independent food businesses and will be divided into two areas—one for London producers and one for street and restaurant operators. There will also be a bar and bookshop.
Japanese ramen chain Ippudo is to open a fourth restaurant on Goodge Street in London later in the year. It will join three other sites on Central St Giles Piazza, Crossrail Place in Canary Wharf and Villiers Street near Charing Cross.
The Restaurant Group says it will launch Wagamama spin-off brand Mamago in Fenchurch Street in the City by the end of the year. It will have a pan-Asian menu and will focus on grab and go and delivery markets.
Slim Chickens is continuing its UK roll-out under Boparan Restaurant Group with a new opening on Brunswick Square near St Pancras in late September. It will be a fifth site for the brand, after James Street and Soho in London, and Birmingham and Cardiff. Boparan CEO Tom Crowley said: “The positive customer reaction we are getting from Slim Chickens across the UK so far is phenomenal… We are now on the lookout for locations across the UK and hope to have restaurant number six open before Christmas.
Shake Shack is to open at Gatwick Airport under a new partnership with TRG Concessions. It will be an 11th UK Shake Shack and will be located at the airport’s North Terminal, in a unit that was previously occupied by EAT. TRG Concessions is also launching a site with Mexican street food brand Barburrito—a third joint venture in airports after launches at Bristol and Edinburgh.
Rockfish has just opened its seventh site on the Esplanade in Weymouth. It joins restaurants in Brixham, Dartmouth, Exeter, Exmouth, Plymouth and Torquay. An eighth is due to open in Poole in the winter.
Indian food and craft beer group Tap & Tandoor has opened a second site—a 4,300 square feet, 80-cover restaurant at the Queensgate Shopping Centre in Peterborough. It follows the launch of the concept in Solihull. Guy Thomas, head of retail at Lendlease, said: “Tap & Tandoor are the perfect example of an independent brand making waves in the food and beverage market and creating concepts to work specifically with destinations. One of our main strategies at Queensgate is to support local business and we are excited to play a part in Tap & Tandoor’s expansion in the industry.”
Tortilla has set 20 September for the opening of its restaurant in Cabot Circus in Bristol.
Stonegate Pub Company is to open a Be At One cocktail bar on Deansgate in Manchester. It will be a conversion of its Living Room venue there and will open in November.
BrewDog has lined up a new opening in Swansea in the next few weeks—a second site for the group. It will take on a unit previously occupied by a US-style bar.
Wells & Co is opening a tenth site for its Pizza Pots & Pints brand. It is a reopening of The Cottage pub in Earlsdon near Coventry.
Titanic Brewery opens a fourth location for its café and bar concept Bod next week. It will be in Newport in Shropshire and joins sites in Stafford, Stoke and Trentham.
French restaurant and hotel group Mama London opened its first UK location in Shoreditch this week. It has a 100-cover restaurant alongside a 195-bed hotel.
North east restaurant group Tomahawk Steakhouse is to open a sixth site at the DL1 centre in Darlington. It joins restaurants in Newcastle, Husthwaite, Ponteland, Potto and Thirsk.
Hampshire-based all-day restaurant, coffeeshop and wine bar group Josie’s is to open a fourth site in Romsey before the end of the year. It joins sites in Bishop’s Waltham, Winchester and Petersfield.
