The Time Out group has signed a conditional lease arrangement for a major new market at Waterloo.London, a new retail and leisure development by Waterloo station. Time Out Market London will bring together 17 restaurant and bar operations under one roof, with 32,500 square feet of space for 500 covers over two floors. The opening is expected in 2021. Time Out’s first market opened in Lisbon in 2014, and there are plans for more sites next year in Miami, New York, Boston, Chicago and Montreal. Time Out is also pursuing consent for an operation in Spitalfields.
Vapiano has opened its fifth London restaurant—at the bottom of the Centre Point building off Tottenham Court Road. It has around 350 covers over three floors.
Marston’s has opened a taproom at its Wychwood Brewery in Witney in Oxfordshire.
Nando’s has set 23 January for the launch of its new restaurant on Waterloo Street in Glasgow, local media report. It will be a ninth site in the city for the brand. Nando’s has also secured a site at White City Retail Park in Manchester, taking over a unit previously occupied by Pizza Hut. It should launch there next summer.
JD Wetherspoon will soon start work on a new pub in Victoria House in Liverpool. It will be called the Captain Alexander. The pub has been delayed since Wetherspoon first set out plans in 2017.
Slim Chickens, the US fast-casual concept that is being rolled out in the UK by the Boparan Restaurant Group, has opened its second site here, in the food quarter of the St David’s shopping centre in Cardiff. It has 90 covers. Slim Chickens opened its first UK site on Oxford Street in London earlier this year.
India-based restaurant group Farzi Café has soft-launched its first European location this week on Haymarket in London. The brand has nine sites around India and Dubai.
Healthy restaurant and bar Redemption has just opened its third site on Shorts Gardens in Seven Dials in Covent Garden. It follows launches in Shoreditch and Notting Hill. The new site has 45 covers and an alcohol-free cocktail bar.
Work has started on a new branch of New World Trading Company’s The Botanist bar and restaurant concept on Milsom Place in Bath, local media report. The plans for the 8,600 square feet Grade II listed building needed approval from Historic England, and an opening is now scheduled for the spring. The Botanist has meanwhile confirmed an opening in the Cornhill Quarter development in Lincoln, which is due to complete in early 2020.
Loungers is lining up an opening for its Lounge brand in Huntingdon in the spring, according to local media. It plans to take on a unit previously occupied by retailer Argos.
American-style restaurant and bar group Hancock’s will open at the St James Centre in Dover early next year. The 4,500 square feet restaurant will have 150 covers. The brand has also just opened at the Swan Centre in Eastleigh, the St Mead’s Centre in Farnborough and the Whitely Shopping Centre in Fareham. Dessert bar brand Kaspa’s has meanwhile also signed to open at the St James Centre.
Soho Coffee Co has launched at the Cabot Circus development in Bristol. It comes soon after an opening in the Clifton area of Bristol.
Archway pizza concept Lost Boys opened its second restaurant this week on Eversholt Street in Camden. It sells black charcoal pizzas and has a basement absinth bar.
Japanese coffee shop brand Omotesano Koffee opened its first UK branch in the Rathbone Square development in London this week. It sells food on the go as well as speciality coffee. Omotesano has branches in Hong Kong and Singapore as well as Japan and has plans for more international branches.
Healthy food and juice concept Crussh is to open a site on the upper concourse at London Bridge station in the spring. It is a second opening under a partnership with SSP, following a launch at Paddington earlier this year. CEO Shane Kavanagh said: “Our first opening with SSP has exceeded everyone’s expectations and we are delighted to build on its success with this great unit at London Bridge.”
O’Neill’s has opened on Union Street in Glasgow after a refurbishment of its Royal Scot pub there.
Lancashire’s Retreat group has opened a new restaurant and bar in Bromley Cross in Bolton. It joins the original Retreat in Adlington, north of Bolton, which opened in 2016.
The William IV pub and hotel on Harrow Road in London has reopened after a major refurbishment under entrepreneur Jean-Marin Bolot.
