New openings round-up

Jamie's Diner, Gusto, Veeno, Cairngorm Brewery, Darjeeling Express, and Tibits round out this week's new openings.

Jamie Oliver is opening a new US-style Diner at Gatwick Airport’s South Terminal in August. The 630 square metre venue will have 278 covers, with a deli section as well as eat-in tables. It is a second branch for the Diner concept, which already operates in Piccadilly. Oliver said: “I’m chuffed to be opening a new diner at Gatwick. Airports can be pretty crazy places so we’re creating the perfect space to chill out with some good food, and maybe a drink or two, before you start your holiday… We’re totally upping the game in airport food.” Jamie’s Italian already operates at Gatwick.

Gusto will open in York in July. It has taken on a former retail unit on Little Stonegate which will have space for 120 covers after a refurb costing close to £1m. Managing director Sue Crimes told the York Press: “York is a perfect location for our clientele who want delicious food, fantastic drinks and a glamorous atmosphere.”

The ETM pub and restaurant group is to open the Long Arm Pub and Brewery on Worship Street in Shoreditch at the end of June. The 2,500 square feet space with 85 covers will have an on-site microbrewery that will serve beers direct from tanks. ETM already has a Long Arm Brewery in Ealing. Founder Ed Martin said: “Our Long Arm Brewery in Ealing has been producing exceptional beers and our latest opening combines my passion for brewing with my love of hospitality.”

Brewhouse & Kitchen opens in Trent Bridge in Nottingham next Sunday (18 June)—its 18th venue in all. It will have a microbrewery and space for around 350 people.

Pub and restaurant group White Brasserie Co will open the Black Horse pub in Reigate on 26 June. It follows a major refurb of the venue, which was acquired from the Time Well Spent group.

Marston’s has opened the Tuck and Tanner in Top Valley in Nottingham—a new-build pub on the site of an old demolished venue.

Italian wine café concept Veeno has signed for a 12th UK site, at the Bell Court development in Stratford-upon-Avon. Veeno already operates its Sicilian wine and small plates concept from sites in Bristol, Chester, Edinburgh, Harrogate, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, Manchester, Nottingham, Reading and York. The Bell Court development will launch in late summer, and has also signed up brands including Miller & Carter, Byron, All Bar One and Nando’s.

Miller & Carter has set 23 June for the opening of its new restaurant in Fulwell in Sunderland. It follows a conversion of Mitchells & Butlers’ Harvester restaurant.

Five Guys opened its latest new restaurant in the Quay in Glasgow on Monday (5 June). The Croydon Advertiser meanwhile reports that it will open on the High Street in Croydon in September.

Turtle Bay has acquired a site in Winchester. It is a ground floor and basement space at Sunley House, and a planned expansion will take the footprint to 4,200 square feet. The deal was arranged by Savills.

Handmade Burger Co has applied for a licence to open on Finkle Street in York, according to reports.

The Cairngorm Brewery has secured permission to open a pub and restaurant in Inverness. It has taken on a listed building there and is now working on plans.

Loungers has confirmed a deal to open a Cosy Club bar and restaurant at the Chester Northgate development. It will be a 180-cover venue over 5,500 square feet on two floors. It should open at the development in 2018.

A new Indian restaurant concept called Darjeeling Express will launch on Kingly Court in Carnaby on 27 June. It will be a 1,200 square feet venue serving sharing platters.

Starbucks has signed to open at the new Cathedral Square in Worcester in July, local media report. Brands including ASK Italian, All Bar One, Byron, Cosy Club, Miller & Carter and YO! Sushi have already been confirmed for the £20m development.

Switzerland-based vegetarian concept Tibits is opening a second site on London’s Bankside. It is a 120-cover restaurant serving salads, stews, craft beer and cocktails, with takeaway options. The first London site was opened 17 years ago in Mayfair.

Las Iguanas will open at the BH2 centre in Bournemouth on 19 June.

US-based build your own burger concept the Counter has opened its first site at the Quay in Glasgow. It is being run by the Daniel Johns Group under a master franchise deal. There are plans to open several more Counter restaurants in England and Scotland over the next few years.

Denmark-based pizza concept Mother will open at the Circus West Village development by Battersea Power Station on 20 July. It is Mother’s first restaurant outside Denmark. The concept offers sourdough pizza made with purified sea water.
